Description

1.  SUMMARY:      Perform routine Inspection work in petroleum and petrochemical terminals and refineries; also performs inspection work on board barges and ships following industry standards and the procedures published and distributed by Saybolt; perform Bunkering Inspections.                                 

Products handled: Crude Oil, Residual Fuels, Diesel Oil, Gasoline, Jet Fuel, Chemicals, Lube Oils & LPG car-goes   

2.  ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   Read and understand all job and safety requirements in English. Perform visual cleanliness inspections of tanks including entering confined spaces. Verify accuracy of measurement equipment. Work safely in the presence of hazardous materials as defined in the appropriate Material Safety Data Sheets. Take product measurements and samples; accurately and promptly perform related calculations; complete required reports and forms clearly and promptly; perform inventories.; do non-petroleum or chemical inspection assignments. Perform other inspection Department duties assigned by Manager or Scheduler. Exercise procedural, safety and quality requirements Specified in Saybolt procedures Manuals, the Saybolt Safety Manual, the Core Laboratories Safety and Enviromental Manual and Core Laboratories / Saybolt company policies. Attend training and pass appropriate Examinations in Petroleum procedures, including Right-to-Know training, hazardous materials transportation and other safety training required by applicable regulations.

3. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:     To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able  to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge  skill, and/or ability required. A 90-day initial review  applies to Inspectors, during which time the Inspector and Saybolt will determine the Inspector’s suitability  for the job.                                                               

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:   A high school graduate or equivalent, or at least one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.                              

LANGUAGE SKILLS:       Ability to read and analyze instructional and technical materials in English relating to procedures and safety. Ability to write, in English,  applicable reports and correspondence clearly. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, schedulers and clients. 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:     Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure  using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent and quantities (linear, volumetric or weight) and to read and interpolate applicable data and tables.                           

REASONING ABILITY:      Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule formats.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:     The work environment characteristics described here are representative   of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  While performing  the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles and toxic and caustic 

chemicals. Saybolt provides product information, training, engineering controls and personal protective  equipment in an effort to protect employees from exposure to potentially harmful levels of those materials. Employees are required to read product information, use available engineering controls follow guidelines presented during training and be able to wear and use appropriate protective

equipment, including respiratory protective equipment as may be required by the work environment.

4. OTHER:    Basic computer skills in word processing and spreadsheet programs.
