Description
Under the supervision of the Community Development Director/Chief Building Official, performs assigned building inspections and code compliance inspections on residential and commercial projects.
The following duties are not intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities.
- Inspects new residential and commercial building construction as well as remodeling of existing buildings, additions, tenant improvements, etc. to ensure code compliance in structural, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing.
- Conducts plan reviews as needed.
- Verifies building setbacks and that all work is completed per the approved building plans.
- Utilizing government permit tracking software to keep accurate records of inspections, results and all specific and pertinent project notes.
- Enforces all adopted building and maintenance codes and ensures that minimum code requirements are achieved.
- Enforces Globe Municipal Codes/Ordinances for code compliance.
- Discusses unique or severe problems found in the field with the Building Official to develop strategy seeking compliance.
- Follows up on field questions from contractors and owner/builders.
- Is available to the public during specific times to answer building code questions by phone or in the office
- Performs other related job duties as required or assigned.
- Attends and participates in internal/external training and continuing education as needed.
- Attend council meetings when requested and participate in city organized events when required.
High school diploma or equivalent.
ICC certified building inspector or two years of building inspection experience or two years of construction related experience.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
ICC Residential Building Inspector Certification (within 24 months of hire).
Possession of a valid State of Arizona driver’s license.
Knowledge of:
- City, county, state, federal laws, city regulations and ordinances.
- Principles and practices of building and code compliance
- City of Globe codes regarding building construction/inspection.
- Construction industry and Community Development policies and procedures.
- Civil court procedures.
- Adopted City of Globe andStatecodesregardingcommercialandresidentialconstructionandall adopted applicable building codes and amendments.
- Permitting procedures and requirements.
- Modern office management principles, machinery, practices and methods.
- Personal computers, field tablets and various software applications.
Required Ability to:
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with city staff, contractors, developers, skilled trade workers, municipal court staff, various external organizations/individuals and the general public
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Effectively communicate and produce resolve.
- Maintain organized records.
- Prioritize workload and complete tasks.
- Ability to operate a camera and develop other records that efficiently and effectively substantiate a position
- Ability to utilize measurement taking tools.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
- Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor work environments. May be required to perform a full range of motion while lifting and/or carrying supplies, tools, materials, equipment and/or items weighing up to 40 pounds.
