Help us to deepen relationships with our customers

We’re here to Help Britain Prosper – putting the ever-changing needs of our customers at the heart of everything we do. Our Consumer Lending function is all about supporting our customers' borrowing needs, whether they're banking with us directly or choosing our products through other providers.

Job Description

Shaping the future of consumer banking

Consumer banking is changing fast – and we want placement students who can help change it with us.

The Product and Partnerships Industrial Placement is designed to develop our next generation of product leaders – curious thinkers, data explorers and customer-first creators who can turn insight into innovation. From day one, you’ll contribute to real projects that support our 28 million customers, learning how products, propositions and partnerships are built, launched and evolved as customer expectations change. You’ll see ideas move from insight to delivery while building valuable experience, confidence and connections for your future career.

One year. Real impact.

Your 12-month Industrial Placement gives you the opportunity to take on meaningful work in a business bringing together the capabilities needed to create simpler, smarter and more connected experiences for customers. You’ll work alongside experienced colleagues, collaborate across teams and use data, digital technology and customer insight to help solve real problems. By connecting the scale of our data, the power of our digital platforms and the expertise of our colleagues, we can better understand customer needs and respond in meaningful ways. You could gain experience in:

  • Product & Platform – learn how products and propositions are developed, managed and delivered. Work on customer journeys, digital experiences and platform innovation across saving, borrowing, money management and planning for the future.
  • Strategic Partnerships – work with major partners to shape propositions, manage relationships and support safe, sustainable and customer-focused delivery.

The skills you’ll master

By the end of the scheme, you’ll have built practical experience, valuable connections and greater confidence in:

  • Commercial thinking – understanding how banking decisions create value and support positive customer outcomes.
  • Product development – helping to shape, manage and improve products and propositions.
  • Customer insight – using data and research to understand needs and improve experiences.
  • Relationship building – collaborating with colleagues and partners to turn ideas into action.
  • Digital and AI capability – using technology and AI tools to work smarter and explore new possibilities.
  • Agile problem-solving – working across teams, adapting quickly and delivering at pace.

The work you could be doing

  • Exploring customer behaviour and using insight to improve products, propositions and experiences.
  • Helping design simpler, more connected journeys that support customers to manage their money, borrow, save and plan for the future.
  • Contributing to cross-team projects that deliver visible change for customers and the business.
  • Working with external partners to develop and bring new propositions to market.
  • Using data and technology to test ideas and make informed decisions.
  • Supporting more inclusive, sustainable and personalised customer outcomes.

Support to succeed

You’ll be supported to build your skills, confidence and network through:

  • A structured learning and development journey.
  • Guidance, feedback and sponsorship from experienced colleagues and leaders.
  • Opportunities to build connections across Consumer and the wider Group.
  • Access to learning academies, Viva Learning and internal development platforms.

Requirements

What you need to apply

  • Be in your penultimate year at university.
  • While we do not require a set projected minimum degree achievement, we strongly recommend the ability to be able to demonstrate sound knowledge, understanding and technical skills aligned to the role. Some aspects of this, alongside behaviours and values, will be assessed through the application process.
  • We cannot sponsor visas.
  • Knowledge of at least one modern programming language or framework.
  • A genuine passion for technology and the drive to keep learning.

Choose from Manchester, Leeds, Watford (London), Cardiff or Chester. With our hybrid working policy, all colleagues spend at least two days a week in the office.
