Description

The Electrical Operations Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the electrical department. This role will drive department performance, technician productivity, customer satisfaction, safety, quality, and profitability while developing a high-performing electrical team.

The ideal candidate is a strong people leader with a background in residential electrical service and/or installation who understands how to build a department, hold teams accountable, and create an exceptional customer experience.

This is a hands-on leadership position that requires strong business acumen, field knowledge, communication skills, and the ability to coach and develop technicians and support staff.

Key Responsibilities

Department Leadership

  • Oversee all daily electrical department operations.

  • Establish department goals, KPIs, and performance expectations.

  • Lead, coach, and develop electricians, installers, apprentices, and support personnel.

  • Conduct regular one-on-ones, performance reviews, and team meetings.

  • Build a culture of accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement.

  • Partner with Recruiting and HR to identify staffing needs and build a strong talent pipeline.

Production & Field Operations

  • Monitor daily technician productivity, capacity, sold work, callbacks, and completion rates.

  • Ensure jobs are properly scheduled and resources are aligned with demand.

  • Work closely with dispatch and customer service to maximize technician efficiency.

  • Assist with escalated field situations and complex customer concerns.

  • Ensure technicians have the tools, materials, training, and resources needed to succeed.

  • Identify operational bottlenecks and implement solutions.

Financial & Department Performance

  • Own electrical department revenue, gross profit, labor costs, and overall profitability.

  • Monitor department KPIs and financial performance.

  • Identify opportunities to improve average ticket, conversion, productivity, and revenue.

  • Control overtime, material costs, warranty expenses, and other controllable costs.

  • Partner with leadership to develop annual budgets and growth strategies.

  • Analyze department performance and create action plans when goals are not being met.

Customer Experience

  • Ensure every customer receives a professional, high-quality experience.

  • Handle escalated customer concerns and service recovery situations.

  • Monitor callbacks, complaints, reviews, and customer satisfaction.

  • Establish clear expectations for technician professionalism and communication.

  • Ensure work is completed according to company quality standards.

Safety, Quality & Compliance

  • Maintain strict adherence to electrical codes, company standards, and safety procedures.

  • Ensure technicians maintain required licenses and certifications.

  • Conduct quality-control reviews and address workmanship issues.

  • Reduce callbacks and warranty-related expenses through training and accountability.

  • Promote a strong safety culture throughout the department.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

Training & Development

  • Identify technical and leadership development opportunities.

  • Create and maintain training plans for electricians and apprentices.

  • Partner with Training/HR to develop career paths and advancement opportunities.

  • Coach technicians on technical skills, customer communication, sales, and productivity.

  • Identify high-potential employees and develop future leaders within the department.

Sales & Revenue Growth

  • Partner with Sales and Operations leadership to grow the electrical department.

  • Monitor lead conversion, average ticket, sold hours, and close rates.

  • Coach technicians on identifying customer needs and presenting solutions professionally.

  • Develop strategies to increase maintenance, repair, replacement, and electrical upgrade opportunities.

  • Identify new revenue opportunities and services the company can offer.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 5+ years of experience in residential electrical service, installation, or a related field.

  • Previous leadership or management experience.

  • Strong understanding of residential electrical systems and field operations.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to coach, motivate, and hold employees accountable.

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to analyze operational and financial performance.

  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Preferred:

  • Master Electrician or appropriate state electrical license.

  • Experience managing a residential service electrical department.

  • Experience with ServiceTitan or similar field-service management software.

  • Experience managing a P&L or department budget.

  • Experience growing a service department.

  • Experience in HVAC, plumbing, or other home-service industries.

  • Identify immediate operational and customer-service opportunities.

  • Establish clear accountability and performance expectations.

  • Implement coaching and development routines.

  • Begin improving productivity, callbacks, and customer experience.

  • Identify staffing, training, and equipment needs.

90 Days

  • Deliver measurable improvement in department performance.

  • Establish a sustainable operating rhythm for the electrical department.

  • Develop a strong bench of technicians and future leaders.

  • Build a clear growth plan for the department.

  • Demonstrate ownership of financial and operational results.

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation: $100k– $120 DOE + Performance Bonus
