Description

The Town of Marana is currently seeking individuals who enjoy swimming and working outdoors and are committed to maintaining a safe environment. The Parks and Recreation Department is hiring for Head Lifeguards for an exciting season working at the Marana Aquatic and Recreation Center, to help ensure a safe and positive experience for our visitors!
Pursuant to the Marana Town Code, Sections 3-1-2(D) and 3-1-3(B), and the current Salary Schedule implemented by the Town Manager, the position of Head Lifeguard is defined as a Temporary position. Temporary positions are at-will employees and employment that may be terminated upon the will of the employer or employee at any time with or without cause.
StarGuard Elite Lifeguard Training and Certification will be provided by the Town to the hired applicants upon beginning employment.
SCHEDULE: This position works a variable schedule based on operational needs, for up to 19 hours per week. Early mornings, late evenings, Saturday, Sunday and holiday shifts may be assigned.
DURATION: Temporary Summer season role; extension possible based on performance and business needs into next season.
- Summer Season: Early March – Early August
- Fall Season: Early August – Late November
- Winter Season: Late November – Early March
Hiring Rate: $18.00 per hour
Returning Marana employees may be eligible for a $0.25/hour increase for each returning year (12 months worked) up to a maximum pay rate of $19.00/hour.
- Leads Lifeguards in completing day to day operations and monitors Lifeguards ability to stay focused and on task.
- Provides leadership and presents a positive role model for Lifeguards to follow.
- Provides assistance in activities and aquatic programs; ensures swimmers are well supervised in the pool and on the decks; enforce all pool rules regulations and safety standards.
- Assists with pool maintenance and inventory supplies.
- Provides customer service answering inquiries for aquatic programming and providing information to patrons; Greets patrons arriving at the facility.
- Performs rescues.
- Practices lifeguard/rescue skills and participates in required in-service trainings.
- Monitors facility operations to help prevent accidents and drowning incidents.
- Assists with inventory of pool and office supplies.
- Maintains high standards of safety and professional skills.
- Assists with custodial maintenance and related assignments as needed.
- Enforces all pool rules and regulations.
- Leads and assists with groups in aquatic programming and events.
- Maintains courteous and cooperative interactions with the public at all times.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Must be at least 16 years of age at time of application close date, October 12, 2026.
- Must have previous Lifeguard experience
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Selected candidates will be invited to interview for the position and complete an in-water screening. Both will occur Monday, October 26 – Friday, October 30 (afternoon and evening sessions will be available).
- Water Screening: Passing candidates must have the ability to swim 50 yards without stopping, swim 50 yards with a rescue tube, tread water for 2 minutes without use of hands and retrieve a 10-pound dive brick from bottom of the pool.
