Our client is a long‑standing, mission‑driven non‑profit organization provides comprehensive animal‑welfare services to its regional community. It operates a full‑service shelter that offers medical care, behavioral support, and adoption programs for vulnerable animals, while also managing lost‑and‑found services, intake of stray or surrendered pets, and public education initiatives. The organization maintains an enforcement and outreach team responsible for responding to cases of neglect or abuse and supporting compliance with local animal‑welfare regulations. As a charitable entity, it relies on community partnerships and donor support to advance its core mission of protecting animals, promoting responsible pet ownership, and giving at‑risk animals a safe path to recovery and a second chance.
As a key member of the organization, the Bilingual Accountant plays a central role in ensuring the organization’s financial integrity, operational efficiency, and compliance with established standards. This position combines hands‑on accounting expertise with strong analytical capabilities, supporting everything from day‑to‑day financial operations to strategic reporting that guides leadership decision‑making. With responsibilities spanning accounting, payroll administration, procurement oversight, and financial compliance, the Accountant contributes directly to the smooth functioning and long‑term sustainability of the organization. The Bilingual Accountant is responsible for executing and enhancing core financial processes that ensure accuracy, transparency, and compliance across the organization’s operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Billing & Compliance: Implement, maintain, and continuously improve billing processes while ensuring adherence to internal controls and regulatory requirements.
- Accounts Payable & Receivable: Process invoice payments, issue billing, conduct account follow‑ups, and prepare and record bank deposits.
- Bank Reconciliation: Perform monthly bank reconciliations to ensure accurate financial records and timely identification of discrepancies.
- External Billing Coordination: Manage invoicing and financial interactions with external partners such as MAPAQ, municipalities, and other key stakeholders.
- Donation Management: Oversee the financial administration of donations, including data entry, reconciliation, and the creation and issuance of official donation receipts.
- Budgeting & Financial Monitoring: Contribute to the development of the annual budget, support its implementation, and track financial indicators to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare detailed financial reports, statements, and analytical summaries to support informed decision‑making by senior leadership.
- Payroll Processing: Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing, maintaining compliance with legislative requirements and internal policies while safeguarding confidentiality and data integrity.
The ideal candidate is a bilingual accounting professional with solid academic training in accounting, management, or a related field, paired with hands‑on experience in financial management, payroll processing, or supporting executive governance. You excel in both French and English, demonstrating clear communication in both languages, strong analytical abilities and impeccable attention to detail. Highly organized and autonomous, you will bring professional rigor, sound judgment, and absolute discretion when handling confidential information. Technical proficiency—spanning Microsoft Office, QuickBooks, and other accounting tools—supports your ability to manage multiple priorities, collaborate effectively across departments, and contribute to continuous improvement within the finance function.
