ID.me is a full-time, in-office culture. About the Role
ID.me is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to own end-to-end payroll operations for our growing, multi-state workforce. This role ensures accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing while partnering closely with People Ops, Finance, and Legal to support company growth. The ideal candidate combines deep technical payroll expertise with a strong compliance mindset and the ability to improve processes as the company scales.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and manage the end-to-end payroll cycle for all U.S. employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness across multiple states
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations, wage and hour laws (FLSA), and multi-state employment requirements
- Process garnishments, bonuses, commissions, and equity-related payroll events
- Reconcile payroll general ledger accounts and partner with Accounting on month-end close, accruals, and payroll-related journal entries
- Manage relationships with payroll providers, tax agencies, and benefits vendors; serve as primary point of contact for payroll system administration
- Administer and audit benefits deductions, 401(k) contributions, and other pre/post-tax deductions in coordination with People Ops
- Manage quarterly and annual payroll tax filings and support year-end payroll processes
- Maintain internal controls and support internal/external payroll audits
- Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities as headcount grows
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries with a high level of service and confidentiality
- Stay current on evolving payroll compliance requirements, including multi-state nexus and remote-work tax implications
- Support ad hoc reporting and analysis for Finance, HR, and executive leadership
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive payroll experience, including at least 2 years in a payroll management or lead role
- Hands-on experience processing multi-state U.S. payroll for a company of 300+ employees
- Strong working knowledge of federal and state payroll tax regulations, wage and hour laws, and payroll accounting principles
- Experience with a major payroll/HRIS platform
- Experience processing equity compensation (RSUs and stock options) in payroll
- High attention to detail and strong ownership of accuracy and deadlines
- Excellent communication skills and discretion when handling sensitive employee data
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant professional certification in payroll management, such as Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC)
- Experience in a high-growth technology or SaaS company
- Experience with SOX compliance and payroll internal controls
- Familiarity with international and contractor payroll
The annual base salary listed does not include a company bonus, incentive for sales roles, equity and benefits which will be determined based on experience, skills, education, relevant training, geographic location and role.
