Medical Assistant Bilingual - Montrose (Job Overview)

Schedule: Mon-Fri 8a-6p ; Thur - OFF

As a Bilingual Infectious Disease and Specialty Medical Assistant, you will be an essential part of a collaborative primary care team, helping providers deliver compassionate, timely, and whole-person care. Your support during examinations, minor office procedures, laboratory services, and patient education will help create a welcoming, respectful experience for every patient and family we serve.

Working within a team-based medical home, you will help advance culturally sensitive, language-appropriate care, continuity, prevention, and patient empowerment through self-management education.

Role Highlights

Key Responsibilities

• Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and height.
• Record patients' medical history, vital statistics, and information such as test results in medical records.
• Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens; log and document specimens; and prepare them for testing.
• Assist physicians in examining and treating patients by handing them instruments and materials.
• Give injections and remove sutures as directed.
• Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, including cleaning and restocking.
• Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies.
• Provide phone consultation with clients regarding test results and health concerns.
• Process blood and other specimens, ensuring all specimens are properly labeled and packaged for lab pickup.
• Perform phlebotomy and other diagnostic tests as needed.
• Administer oral, intramuscular, SubQ, and topical medications as ordered.
• Ensure proper documentation of patient care.
• Maintain exam room supplies, check stock for expired dates, and change sharps containers and biohazard waste as needed.
• Assist with programs such as the Hazard Communication and Accident Prevention plans associated with OSHA compliance.
• Participate in the Performance Improvement Program.
• Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
• Promote effective working relationships and work effectively as part of a team to facilitate the department’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.
• Work within the context of a primary care medical home, applying a team-based approach to care while partnering with patients and families to promote timely access to care, culturally sensitive and language-appropriate care, continuity of care, and whole-person improvement through appropriate self-management education.
• Attend all required safety training programs and remain knowledgeable about responsibilities related to general safety, department or service safety, and specific job-related hazards.
• Operate assigned equipment and perform all procedures safely as instructed.
• Maintain the work area and equipment according to Legacy and government policies and requirements.
• Demonstrate proper body mechanics in all functions.
• Check the patient environment and equipment to ensure safety.
• Report safety concerns promptly to appropriate personnel.
• Follow Legacy’s exposure control plans for blood-borne and airborne pathogens.
• Demonstrate knowledge of techniques, procedures, and correct use of protective barrier equipment and Universal Precautions.
• Ensure a safe environment by instituting appropriate control measures.
• Attend annual education programs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• BLS/CPR Certification required

Required Years of Experience

• Up to one year experience

Desirable Education and/or Experience

• Up to three years’ experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

• Bilingual English/Spanish required
• Excellent communication skills and customer service skills.
• Basic front desk, clerical or healthcare support specialist skills/experience
• Ability to work with clinical staff, works well under pressure, and multitask within a multidisciplinary team
• Commitment to the concepts of preventive health care and team approach to health care delivery
• Experience working with computers
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

• Phlebotomy skills preferred
• Experience with electronic medical records, preferred
