Description
- Changes light bulbs and fluorescent tubes.
- Sweeps, vacuums, mops, dusts, shampoos, strips, waxes, polishes, and buffs floors, carpets, furniture, etc.
- Dumps garbage cans and relines cans with liners.
- Cleans and sanitizes restrooms and replenishes supplies; cleans spills; cleans drinking fountains, mirrors, tables, walls, fixtures, blinds, light fixtures, etc.
- Washes windows, walls, metal, and woodwork.
- Cleans sidewalks and other access areas of snow and debris.
- Picks up litter from around buildings and grounds.
- Performs skilled interior building maintenance and repairs such as painting, floor covering, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, mechanical, and other unskilled and skilled trades work, as required.
- Inspects and maintains assigned custodial equipment and small tools for proper operating conditions.
- Opens and closes, locks, and unlocks facilities as needed.
- Keeps records of work completed.
- Represents and commits to building a culture inclusive of diversity, equity, inclusion, ethics, and trust.
- Meets all job safety requirements and standards that pertain to the essential functions of the position.
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED: Including, but not limited to, the following:
- Lawn and landscaping equipment, including tractors, mowers, chainsaws, edgers, weed trimmers, electric motors, pumps, sprinklers, irrigation systems, miscellaneous hand and power tools, carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, and cement finishing work.
- Janitorial equipment, including floor buffers, steam cleaners, carpet cleaners, washers, vacuums, mops, brooms, dust equipment, and snow plows.
- Table saw, miter saw, band saw, sanders, router, radial arm saw, and all other tools associated with carpentry.
- Telephone, mobile, and portable radios, computers (basic MS Word and MS Excel experience is preferred), and copy machines.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.Graduation from High School or GED equivalent and at least four years of experience and aptitude in plumbing, carpentry, electrical, general locksmithing, general building maintenance problems, and mechanical repairs; experience in HVAC troubleshooting and repair preferred; or any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Knowledge: Working knowledge of the equipment, materials, and supplies required to repair and maintain buildings, facilities, and grounds, including equipment and supplies used to perform construction and repairs.
- Skills: The operation of the listed tools and equipment.
- Abilities: Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule and carry out assigned projects to their completion; establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, officials, and the public; communicate both orally and in writing; follow written and oral instructions.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED: Must possess a valid State of Ohio driver’s license, and the ability to maintain continuing eligibility under the City’s driver eligibility standards is required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be a non-smoker and non-tobacco/nicotine user, including but not limited to cigarettes, cigars, pipes, snuff, etc., and refrain from using all tobacco/nicotine products for the duration of employment with the City.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.
