Part Time Faculty - Yoga Studies

Position Summary

Loyola Marymount University’s Yoga Studies program invites applications for qualified part-time faculty to teach graduate-level courses in Yoga Studies. The program seeks scholars and educators with expertise in the intellectual, textual, historical, philosophical, and/or religious dimensions of Yoga and its traditions.

Candidates should demonstrate the ability to engage students in rigorous academic study of Yoga traditions, with particular consideration given to expertise in Classical and Hatha Yoga texts and related areas of textual and philosophical study. This position is intended for faculty teaching in the academic field of Yoga Studies rather than for instruction focused primarily on āsana or physical practice.

Responsibilities:

• Teach graduate-level courses in Yoga Studies and related areas.
• Develop and deliver course content appropriate to graduate-level academic study.
• Provide instruction grounded in established Yoga traditions and relevant contemporary scholarship.
• Engage students in the critical study of Yoga texts, philosophies, histories, and traditions.
• Prepare course materials, assignments, and assessments appropriate to the course and program curriculum.
• Evaluate student work and provide timely, substantive feedback.
• Participate in other instructional or program-related responsibilities as appropriate.

Qualifications:

• Master's and Ph.D. degree in Yoga Studies, Religious Studies, South Asian Studies, or a related field preferred.
• Strong preference for candidates with expertise in teaching Classical and Hatha Yoga texts.
• Teaching experience at the graduate or undergraduate level preferred.
• Professional experience in Yoga education, scholarship, or a related academic field.

Additional Information

This is a part-time faculty appointment. Course assignments are contingent upon program needs, enrollment, scheduling, and faculty expertise. Appointment and course assignments are made in accordance with Loyola Marymount University policies and procedures.

The Yoga Studies program is particularly interested in candidates whose teaching and scholarship contribute to the academic study of Yoga traditions through close engagement with primary texts, historical contexts, philosophical frameworks, and related scholarly methodologies.

Minimum salary is $2,657 per unit taught.
