PROJECT ENGINEER (11-MONTH CONTRACT) - SCHOOL OF INFOCOMM TECHNOLOGY

[What the role is]

This is an 11-month contract position as a Project Engineer in the School of InfoComm Technology.

The Project Engineer supports the AI and Digitalisation Centre (AIDC) by developing and maintaining internal AI, automation, software, systems-integration and digitalisation capabilities. The role focuses on building reusable prototypes, technical assets, demonstration platforms and internal digital tools while supporting technology research, testing, documentation and technical implementation.

[What you will be working on]

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Develop and maintain AI, automation, software, systems-integration and digitalisation solutions for the AI and Digitalisation Centre (AIDC).
• Build reusable technical assets, proof-of-concept templates, demonstration systems, workflow automations, dashboards, API connectors and deployment patterns for future use.
• Conduct technical research, feasibility studies, testing, benchmarking and experimentation on relevant AI and digitalisation technologies.
• Support AIDC internal digitalisation including workflow automation, knowledge management, document processing, enquiry tracking, reporting and operational tools.
• Maintain AIDC development, test and demonstration environments including technical documentation, code repositories, system configurations and implementation guides.
• Support technical planning, issue tracking, quality testing and continuous improvement for internal AIDC initiatives.
• Provide limited early-stage technical input for opportunity exploration, including demonstrations, high-level feasibility assessments and non-binding solution concepts.

[What we are looking for]

• Diploma or Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related discipline.
• At least 1 year of relevant hands-on experience in software development, systems integration, automation, digitalisation, AI-enabled solutions or technical project implementation.
• Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language, such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Go, Java, or equivalent.
• Familiarity with developing web applications, APIs, databases, workflow automations, dashboards, cloud services or on-premises systems.
• Basic knowledge of AI and generative AI concepts.
• Familiarity with Git-based version control, testing, technical documentation, issue tracking and deployment practices.
• Ability to analyze operational needs and translate them into practical technical solutions.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, communication and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrates initiative, adaptability, attention to detail and a willingness to learn and experiment with emerging technologies.

 

Advantageous Requirements, Preferred but not a need

• Experience with Docker, Linux, cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, networking, authentication, access control and data-security practices.
• Experience with deploying or integrating AI applications, APIs, databases, cloud services and enterprise systems.
• Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD, containerization, system monitoring or infrastructure-as-code practices.
• Experience developing proof-of-concept systems, technical demonstrations, automation workflows, IoT applications, dashboards, computer-vision solutions, or internal digital tools.
• Experience supporting technical projects from planning and prototyping through testing, documentation, deployment and handover
• Possession of or progress towards a recognized project-management certification such as Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM), Scrum Master or an equivalent certification.
