Overview

The postdoctoral research fellow will conduct high-quality research in computational genomics and pangenomics. Children's Mercy is the home of Genomic Answers for Kids, a one of a kind program aiming to diagnose rare pediatric disease with the latest genome sequencing technologies. The postdoctoral researcher will lead projects in pangenomics, epigenomics and transcriptomics with the aim of understanding rare disease in GA4K. They are expected to learn and apply mainstream pangenome analysis techniques and also improve upon these within GA4K. Moreover, the postdoctoral researcher will design algorithms to take full advantage of personalized genomes in new applications or already existing applications. For instance, the postdoc will have the opportunity to develop tools based on variation graphs to analyze the epigenetic state of structural variants in GA4K. The candidate will also develop approaches in rare variant prioritization methods by combining high quality de novo assemblies, matching epigenomes and other functional data sets. For example, they will develop techniques to rank rare variants based on their epigenetic and functional features. The chosen candidate will work closely with Dr Groza, who established an academic track record in pangenomes and epigenetics.

Responsibilities

• Conduct original research in the the application of data science methods to improve child health.
• Analysis of research data
• Reporting of research results.
• Attend/participate in mandatory educational programs, Section meetings, Scholarly conference and Professor Rounds.
• Mentor graduate students
• Conducting original laboratory research in the general areas of biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, genomics, and neuroscience
• Analysis of research data

Qualifications

 

• Ph.D. or MD or related doctoral level degree in a relevant discipline and 1-2 years experience

Starting Pay

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $28.39/hr, but your offer will be determined based on your education and experience.

 

 

Remote Work/Work from Home

This position is not eligible to work remotely, which means that the person hired will be required to work onsite at one of our Children’s Mercy locations and may not work from home.
