Sustainability Data Specialist
About Holtara
Holtara helps investors, fund managers and companies understand and improve their sustainability performance. We combine technology, high-quality sustainability data and expert advice to solve complex challenges across the private markets.
At the center of our offer is Holtara.io, our sustainability data and insights platform. Clients use it to collect and validate ESG data, calculate carbon footprints, benchmark portfolios and produce decision-ready analysis.
The role
We’re looking for someone to help us reimagine how sustainability data is explored, understood and communicated. This is a hands-on, client-facing role in our Product team, combining analytical thinking, product development and AI-assisted building. You’ll work directly with clients to understand their challenges, explore ideas and create solutions they can use and test.
You might build an interactive report, develop a portfolio dashboard or explore new ways for clients to interrogate their data. The aim is not simply to create convincing prototypes, but to turn promising ideas into useful, reliable products, identifying where they could benefit clients more broadly.
You’ll have room to experiment with emerging tools, alongside sustainability consultants, product managers and engineers who can help bring the strongest ideas into everyday use.
What you’ll do
- Understand client and user needs. Lead focused client conversations, look beyond requested features and turn loosely defined challenges into clear priorities.
- Bring ideas to life. Use AI-assisted development and analytics tools to build interactive dashboards, visualizations and reporting experiences, testing and refining them with users.
- Take solutions beyond the prototype. Connect them to client data, put them into operation and establish clear documentation and ongoing ownership, with specialist support where needed.
- Make the results trustworthy. Investigate data quality, calculations and assumptions, and work with sustainability specialists to ensure outputs are methodologically sound.
- Keep improving. Use feedback and experience from live products to improve their usefulness, usability and reliability.
What we’re looking for
- Minimum three years of work experience in contact with clients working hands-on with sustainability or ESG data, for example in consultancy, data providers, financial services or software.
- Practical experience using AI-assisted tools to create useful digital or analytical solutions, whether professionally or through your own projects.
- Strong analytical judgment and experience: you can work through complex data, question results and explain what the evidence does and doesn’t support.
- Confidence working with clients, understanding priorities and communicating ideas clearly.
- An eye for making complex data understandable and impactful.
- The resourcefulness to troubleshoot what you build, check its quality and recognize when deeper technical expertise is needed.
- A genuine personal commitment to sustainability and motivation to apply your skills in this field.
You don’t need a particular degree, a prescribed programming stack or previous ESG employment. Sustainability knowledge, software development experience and familiarity with private markets are welcome; but evidence of thoughtful, hands-on problem-solving and demonstrable experience working with AI and complex datasets matter more.
What we offer
- Exposure to leading investment managers, asset owners and portfolio companies.
- Opportunities to attend industry events, conferences and professional development programmes.
- High levels of ownership, autonomy and influence from day one.
- Freedom to test new ideas and shape products through innovation and experimentation.
- Access to cutting-edge AI, analytics and visualisation tools.
- Direct involvement in solving real client challenges and influencing product strategy.
- A fast-paced environment where ideas can quickly become client-facing solutions.
