Freelance Photo Retoucher

smartdept. is searching for a Freelance Photo Retoucher for a higher education client. This is a freelance, project-based, remote opportunity starting late November to mid December 2026, with ongoing work as needed.

Our client is relaunching its printed magazine, published twice a year, and needs a Photoshop pro who knows the difference between an image that works on social media and one that’s ready for print. You’ll take photos from the photography team and get them magazine ready. The goal is a long term partnership with someone the team can count on every issue.

What You’ll Do:

• Clean up backgrounds, remove distractions, and refine details
• Retouch images to meet the higher standard print demands
• Prepare files with the right resolution, color, and sizing for print production
• Keep a consistent look across every story in each issue

What You’ll Need:

• Education/Experience:
  • Advanced Adobe Photoshop skills
  • Hands on experience retouching images for print, not only digital
• Understanding of print file requirements and color management
• A sharp eye for small details that show up on the page
• Strong communication, meets deadlines, and manages workload independently

Nice-to-Have Skills:

• Photography experience 
• Magazine or publication production experience
• Familiarity with InDesign and prepress workflows
