Operating Room Nurse Manager

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced clinical leader to serve as Nurse Manager of Surgical & Procedural Services. In this pivotal role, you will be accountable for the overall clinical, operational, and financial leadership of assigned patient care units within Surgical Services.

You will work closely with executive leadership, physicians, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure exceptional patient care, optimize operational efficiency, foster staff development, and cultivate a supportive, patient-focused culture built on mutual respect and excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Operations & Leadership

• Provide overall leadership, clinical oversight, and direction for daily operations across assigned surgical and procedural units.
• Ensure unit compliance with professional nursing standards, evidence-based practices, and organizational policies and procedures.
• Manage clinical workflow, patient throughput, and resource allocation to support safe, high-quality, continuous patient care.

People Development & Culture

• Lead talent management initiatives, including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, mentoring, and performance evaluation of nursing and support staff.
• Empower and develop frontline clinical leaders and caregivers, fostering an inclusive culture of open communication and continuous professional growth.
• Promote shared governance and staff participation in unit-based quality and operational decisions.

Financial Stewardship & Resource Management

• Oversee departmental operating and capital budgets, ensuring appropriate resource utilization based on surgical volume and patient acuity.
• Monitor key productivity metrics, labor costs, and operational efficiencies, implementing corrective action plans when variances occur.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

• Maintain continuous regulatory readiness in alignment with accreditation standards (e.g., The Joint Commission / DNV), CMS, and state guidelines.
• Drive clinical quality indicators, patient safety initiatives, and infection control measures within the surgical suite and procedural areas.
• Partner with surgical and anesthesia medical staff to enhance physician relations, collaborative practice, and perioperative care coordination.

Qualifications & Requirements

Required Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing.
• Licensure: Active and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice (or eligible for state licensure upon hire).
• Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association (AHA).
• Leadership Experience: Minimum of 1+ years of recent direct first-line nursing management/leadership experience (e.g., Nurse Manager or Assistant Nurse Manager).
• Clinical Experience: Minimum of 3 years of clinical nursing experience in an acute care setting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Education: Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN), Healthcare Administration (MHA), Business Administration (MBA), or a related field.
• Clinical Specialty: 5+ years of RN clinical experience in a Hospital Operating Room (OR) or Perioperative/Procedural setting.
• Certifications: Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) or Nurse Executive certification (NE-BC / NEA-BC).
• Leadership Progression: Demonstrated track record of progressive leadership growth and initiative within surgical services.
