Summary//Objective of Position:
This colleague will deliver high quality, engaging teaching in Biology to the students of Dine College and engage in the intellectual life of the Dine community. Standard workload is 15 contact hours per semester and is fulfilled by teaching, research, course development and service to the college. This colleague will deliver high quality, engaging teaching in Biology to the students of Dine College and engage in the intellectual life of the Dine community. Standard workload is 15 contact hours per semester and is fulfilled by teaching research, course development and service to the college as determined by the STEM dean. Expertise in invertebrate biology, medical microbiology and developmental biology in the individual's research field. Typical course loads are three sections per semester (lecture and lab) - this position will be initially teaching course to students in Health Occupations, Biology, Environmental Science and Agriculture. Dine College is expanding it's programs and this colleague is expected to be a part of the developing student research mentoring effort. Faculty research and development of undergraduate research program is encouraged by the College and there are many research funding advantages for faculty working at Dine College, a Native American controlled college.
The successful candidate is expected to adapt to the needs of the School of STEM and may be expected to teach lower division course in biology as needed. Times, days and sites for teaching courses vary and mode of delivery may also vary and could include use of distance education modalities. As multi-site college. faculty may be required to teach at satellite centers.Knowledge:
Invertebrate Zoology, Developmental Biology, Medical Microbiology and other subjects that the candidate would like to teach at the upper division level. Experience in grant writing and research team work.
Experience with online educational management systems (Blackboard).
Skills:
Basic laboratory safely, experience with standard lab equipment such as centrifuges, hoods, PCR machines, analytical balances and incubators.
Assessment of courses and programs; academic advising and mentoring; serve on committees; service to college through leadership of student organizations, service learning, disappearing task forces, grant management, research of specific academic endeavors, etc.
Abilities:
The successful candidate will be persistent and professional and deliver course contact in varied ways that engage multiple intelligences of our students. Instructors are expected to lead students to fulfillment of Student Learning Objectives for each course taught.
Minimum:
M.S. in the STEM discipline, research experience, demonstrated success in college-level teaching in Biology. Minimum course work of 18 credit hours of graduate credit in the discipline to be taught.
Preferred:
Ph.D. research experience as demonstrated by reviewed scientific publications, two or more years college teaching experience.
