Senior Director of Resource Development

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Fox Valley is searching for an experienced and accomplished resource development leader to work in partnership with a CEO that understands the process and magic of major gift fundraising. The CEO’s support of philanthropy and already well-established expectations of the Board supply a strong foundation for continued growth.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Fox Valley has a strong fundraising track record also and the individual selected for this opportunity should be able to leverage that success to design and implement a comprehensive fund development program that further advances the organization’s service to over 14,000 young people each year.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Supervision•Design a comprehensive development strategy, identifying funds needed, fundingtargets, and tactics.•Provide leadership and direction to the CEO and Board in the effective execution of allresource development activities.•Form, develop and manage a team of resource development professionals of sufficientskill, talent, and number necessary to successfully execute fundraising plans.oIdentify staffing needs for major campaigns and ongoing development activities.oInterview and hire team members.oActively mentor and otherwise support the professional development of allresource development team members.oOversee the resource development team, extending and sustaining values-basedculture built on autonomy, mastery and purpose throughout.

Fundraising•Develop and implement tactical plans for single and multi-year resource developmentefforts in partnership with the CEO and the Board that feature:oResearch and analysis of agency, corporate, individual and foundation donorsand prospective donors, their capacity and philanthropic interests, and theirpreferred ways of being approached and engaged.oPreparation and presentation of proposals for corporate and foundation supportof the Club.oBest practice donor stewardship activities.oBest-in-class special events that bring sufficient numbers of donors closer to theorganization’s mission and expand its base of support.o Direct mail.o Planned giving.o Annual campaigns.o Giving incentives such as matching gift challenges.o Various other fund-raising projects or initiatives assigned by the CEO.Continuous Improvement• Ensure the use of on-going continuous improvement processes inclusive of tools suchas PDSA’s, aim statements, and other practices that enhance learning and lead to fundraisingsuccess.Board Development• Assist in finding, recruiting, and training board members.• Motivate and support committees responsible for planning and performing resourcedevelopment activities.Resource Management• Control Resource Development Department expenditures within budget and maintaindonor and financial records in accordance with industry standards and ethics.• Ensure the productive, ethical, and effective performance of all Resource DevelopmentDepartment team members.Marketing and Public Relations• In collaboration with the CEO, provide direction and support to the organization’sMarketing & Communications Coordinator to build organizational awareness andmaintain the public trust.• Support the development and distribution of marketing documents including the annualreport and regular donor development and stewardship communications.

Qualifications

Mission Driven: Personally motivated by the opportunity to help young people,especially those most in need, reach their full potential.• Development/Fundraising: Proven success in resource development for a largenonprofit and experience running major/capital campaigns and success fundraising frommultiple donor channels.• Project Leadership: Experience in planning, leading, and managing developmentprojects, including coordinating with peers to achieve desired outcomes, and trackingand reporting on progress to senior managers/board of directors.• Team Development: Uses a strength-based approach in guiding and managing teammembers; allows for autonomy to allow others to learn and grow; trusts others to getthings done.• Entrepreneurial Spirit: Takes initiative and actively seeks to deepen current donorrelationships and to forge new ones.• Organization: Takes action to focus sufficient attention and time on activities of greatestimportance where the return on investment is highest.• Communications: Skilled in creating powerful, compelling written and oralcommunications for fundraising. Ability to convey complex ideas clearly through brief,simple materials. Experience and credibility when presenting materials to externalaudiences.• Influencing: Gets others to accept ideas by using convincing arguments, creates a winwinsituation and responds appropriately to key stakeholders.• Collaboration: Effective at working with others to reach common goals and objectives• Relationship Building: Skilled at establishing and cultivating strong relationships withpeers, across different levels of the organization and externally.Other• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university.

• Ethical and professional.• Experience with donor management software.• Supervisory experience.• Project management experience and training.• Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE).• Knowledge of and relationships with local, regional, and outlying donor

prospects.
