Job Description

Overview

Senior Electrical Engineer (BOP) is responsible for leading all Balance of Plant (BOP) electrical engineering activities for the Monark-D Program. The role provides technical leadership and coordination for plant electrical systems from concept development through detailed design, procurement, construction support, commissioning and handover. The position acts as the central focal point between engineering disciplines, utilities, equipment suppliers, project management, procurement and construction teams to ensure successful delivery of electrical systems supporting the overall Monark program.

Your role

  • Lead the development and execution of Balance of Plant (BOP) electrical engineering strategies for large-scale power generation projects.
  • Defined electrical design criteria, technical requirements, engineering priorities, and project deliverable schedules to support project objectives.
  • Reviewed and approved key technical decisions while driving design standardization and implementation of lessons learned across projects.
  • Managed the design, integration, and delivery of critical electrical systems including Main Generator interfaces, Generator Step-Up Transformers (GSU), Unit Auxiliary Transformers, Station Service Systems, MV/LV distribution systems, Emergency Power Systems, DC systems, UPS systems, switchgear, MCCs, grounding and lightning protection systems.
  • Directed electrical infrastructure design encompassing electrical buildings, cable routing and management, electrical heat tracing, and yard electrical systems.
  • Served as the primary lead for electrical interfaces between Balance of Plant systems and Nuclear Island facilities.
  • Led utility interface management activities, coordinating technical discussions with utilities, transmission authorities, and stakeholders regarding grid interconnection requirements.
  • Supported grid connection strategy development through load flow, stability, fault, protection, and control studies.
  • Collaborated with major industry stakeholders including OPG, Bruce Power, IESO, and transmission service providers to ensure regulatory and technical compliance.
  • Coordinated multidisciplinary engineering interfaces across Civil & Structural, Mechanical, Instrumentation & Controls (I&C), Turbine Generator, Cooling Water Systems, Construction Planning, and Plant Layout teams.
  • Resolved cross-functional design challenges and ensured alignment between electrical engineering solutions and overall plant performance objectives.
  • Established technical requirements for procurement packages and supported preparation of RFP/RFQ documentation.
  • Led technical bid evaluations, supplier qualification reviews, and vendor clarification meetings to support procurement and contracting activities.
  • Managed vendor technical deliverables, design reviews, and contract execution support throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Supported project planning activities including schedule development, cost estimation, risk identification, and business case preparation.
  • Monitored engineering progress, identified technical risks, and implemented mitigation strategies to maintain project schedules and quality standards.
  • Prepared engineering progress updates and supported project management reviews, stakeholder presentations, and decision-making processes.
  • Participated in constructability reviews and provided technical support for field engineering issues during construction phases.
  • Supported commissioning planning, system turnover, startup activities, and integrated testing programs to ensure successful plant energization and operation.
  • Ensured timely delivery of high-quality engineering deliverables while supporting project schedule, budget, and risk management objectives.
  • Fostered effective coordination among engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operations teams to achieve project milestones and successful grid integration.

About you

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or strong project management expertise considered an asset.
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive electrical engineering experience supporting complex industrial and energy infrastructure projects.
  • 10 years of experience within nuclear, power generation, transmission, and large-scale industrial environments would be preferred.
  • Extensive experience supporting utility-connected generation facilities, including design, integration, commissioning, and operational readiness activities.
  • Proven track record working within EPC organizations, Owner's Engineer roles, utility companies, and major capital project environments.
  • Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary engineering teams through all phases of project delivery.
  • Strong technical expertise in high-voltage transmission and distribution systems, medium-voltage networks, and station auxiliary power systems.
  • Experienced in generator systems, Generator Step-Up Transformers (GSU), and utility interconnection requirements for large power generation facilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of power system studies including load flow, short-circuit, stability, coordination, and protection analysis.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Protection & Control systems, grid integration requirements, and transmission network interfaces.
  • Expertise in electrical system design for emergency power systems, DC power systems, battery systems, and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) applications.
  • Experienced in managing complex electrical interfaces within nuclear facilities and large Balance of Plant (BOP) environments.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian utility regulations, grid reliability standards, and power system integration requirements.
  • Would Prefer candidates with Refurbishment and New Build project experience.
