The Quality Inspector I performs visual, mechanical, and dimensional inspections on strip or loose-piece terminals and connectors to ensure products meet all blueprint, specification, and quality requirements. This role utilizes microscopes, gages, comparators, semi-automated inspection systems, and other precision measurement tools to verify conformance and support production quality.
What you will be doing:
Visual & Microscopic Inspection
- Perform detailed microscope inspections of reeled and loose piece contacts to identify visual defects, including: deformations, chip marks, tool marks, burrs, and fractures, dimple appearance, plating issues such as flaking, discoloration, pits, or uneven coverage, follow standardized criteria to determine acceptability or rejectability of product.
Mechanical & Dimensional Inspection
- Conduct mechanical inspections on reeled or loose-piece terminals using prescribed instruments, including: Comparators, Micrometers, Functional gauges (force gauges, insertion/extraction gauges), Go/no-go gages, Special/custom gauges and fractured testing devices
- Verify critical dimensional features such as barrel width, height, length, true position, symmetry, dimple size, and other blueprint characteristics.
- Straightness, bow, symmetry
First-Piece & In-Process Verification
- Perform first-piece inspections for samples submitted by production personnel and provide timely feedback.
Automated & Semi-Automated Inspection
- Use OGP (Optical Gaging Products) or similar automated measurement systems to perform semi-automated product inspections in accordance with established programs and procedures.
- Interpret automated measurement results and validate product conformance.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain detailed daily inspection records, logs, and traceability documentation.
- Prepare required nonconformance reports, inspection forms, and quality documentation accurately and on time.
- Communicate any quality concerns or trends to the appropriate production and quality personnel.
Compliance & Standards
- Follow all established inspection procedures, quality standards, and engineering documentation.
- Adhere to ISO 9001, IATF-16949, AS9100 customer, and internal quality system requirements.
Other duties:
- Follow safe work practices and keep the work area clean and organized.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Follow documented policies and procedures as designated by the company’s Employee Handbook and Local Work Rules. In addition, adhere to the proper Code of Conduct while on company property.
Requirements
What you will bring to the team:
- 0–2 years of experience in manufacturing or quality inspection (will train candidates with strong aptitude).
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Basic understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Knowledge of basic math and shop math (fractions, decimals, conversions, tolerances).
- Familiarity with microscopes, micrometers, calipers, gages, or similar measurement tools preferred.
- Ability to follow detailed work instructions, inspection procedures, and documentation requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in inspection and recordkeeping.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience inspecting precision terminals, connectors, or small metal components.
- Exposure to OGP, Keyence, or other automated optical measurement systems.
- Basic understanding of quality systems (ISO 9001, IATF-16949, AS9100, customer standards, internal quality documentation).
- Previous experience using GD&T symbols in performing measurements or understanding feature controls.
