Description

The VP, Operations is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating manufacturing and engineering efforts to champion manufacturing excellence and drive continuous improvement across Mactac North America's fleet of manufacturing facilities using a variety of processes and tools including a formal Managed Daily Improvement (MDI) process and continuous improvement tools like Lean Manufacturing, PDCA A3 Problem Solving, 5S, Kaizen, SPC, etc.

This individual will embrace the use of data and metrics as key management tools and will partner with the President in developing innovative and effective tools and processes to monitor and improve manufacturing performance. Additionally, this role is focused on process optimization, both within Operations as well as more broadly across other functional business areas, in support of continuous manufacturing optimization and overall Mactac company performance.

Responsibilities include:

  • Directing and monitoring the performance of a fleet of manufacturing facilities and adjusting operating plans as appropriate to ensure that customer needs are met and that strategic deliverables required to meet Mactac's performance and financial targets are accomplished.
  • Owning and providing overall leadership for the formal Managed Daily Improvement (MDI) process and tier structure across the fleet, driving ownership of performance and continuous improvement at each facility.
  • Using a formal MDI process and Continuous improvement tools to manage a daily improvement culture in the areas of Safety, Service, Quality, Cost and People.
  • Setting objectives for each area of Operations and ensuring alignment with those of other company functional areas and Mactac's overall objectives.
  • Developing specific short- and long-term plans for Operations to include analysis of financial impacts.
  • Being a catalyst of change and change management across the enterprise.
  • Developing and administering systems to operate manufacturing facilities in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.
  • Controlling the costs to manufacture while ensuring high product quality and service levels.
  • Acting as the final decision authority on any matter related to workplace safety and environmental issues.
  • Continuously monitoring and improving manufacturing capabilities, reporting and analysis.
  • Controlling planned inputs and outputs, budget spending, labor utilization, material usage, and engineering planning and asset effectiveness.
  • Continuously determining equipment and human capital needs to optimize organizational effectiveness.
  • Partnering with Supply Chain to ensure on-time delivery of product to customers.
  • Developing and approving operational plans for the application of new manufacturing processes and technology.
  • Establishing objectives and developing procedures that govern manufacturing processes.
  • Ensuring organizational compliance with all applicable local, state and federal regulations.
  • Serving as the senior Operations leader accountable for:
    • Safety execution, including TRIR, DART and prevention/improvement
    • Environmental compliance
    • Labor productivity
    • Material productivity
    • Period cost budget
    • On-time / on-budget for capital projects
    • Product Quality

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in business management, engineering, operations management or a related discipline required. MBA or other related advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years prior experience in managing plant operations, including human capital, is required.
  • Must possess the ability to manage a large, multi-departmental, multi-site, diversified manufacturing operation.
  • Ability to drive for higher performance through excellent leadership, organizational, communication (including active listening), analytical, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Working experience with Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing or other similar Continuous Improvement methodology and certification strongly preferred.
  • Should possess the financial acumen to read and understand financial reports and statements.
  • Must be a team player with the ability to empower, motivate and to mobilize others to initiate change and build momentum for change.
  • Should possess strong strategic abilities to envision where the company needs to go and facilitate how to get there, with demonstrated track record of working successfully in team situations requiring the ability to develop and implement visionary initiatives across departments.
  • Excellent judgment and decision-making ability, including the ability to identify problems and pursue risk-balanced solutions.
  • Ability to work within and map multiple complex chains of cause and effect.
  • Must handle confidential, sensitive and proprietary information with the appropriate discretion.
  • Requires ability to effectively communicate, both in writing and verbally, with key stakeholders and people of various educational and technical backgrounds, both inside and outside the company.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and coordinate diverse departmental interests with corporate procurement strategies.
  • Ability to function comfortably and effectively in a rapidly changing environment in support of the immediate needs of both the organization and customer base.
