Description
This position calls for the ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment with multiple programs.
A fleet of county vehicles is available for home visits.Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of social work;
or a master's degree in counseling;
or four-year degree in a human service field or related curriculum including at least 15 semester hours in courses related to social work or counseling and six months of social work or counseling experience;
four-year degree and one year of experience in counseling or in a related human service field which provides experience in techniques of counseling, casework, group work, or community organization.
A higher education level may be considered as a substitution for all or part of the experience requirement.
Valid driver's license required. Must possess a valid driver’s license as it may be necessary to make home visits, to assist with transportation to medical appointments and essential errands.The Social Worker responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Conducting assessments, developing service plans, collaborative services and communication with providers to ensure customers needs are being met.
- The Social Worker will be responsible for working with clients in numerous service areas such as but not limited to Special Assistance In-Home, and Medicaid Administrative Claiming.
- SAIH is a mandated service for which the state has disallowed the development of a waiting list. Therefore, as clients are determined to be eligible, Forsyth County DSS must provide these services.

Skills Needed:
Requires independent decision-making, assessment skills, professional judgment, effective interview skills, ability to collaborate and knowledge of community resources, ability to effectively communicate (both orally and written) with a diverse population from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds and a variety of physical and/or mental capabilities, must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced, case management role.
The ideal candidate would possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Knowledge of social work principles, techniques/practices & their application to specific casework & community.
- Knowledge of Special Assistance/In Home program
- Knowledge of behavioral and socioeconomic problems and their treatment and governmental and private organizations and community resources.
- Knowledge of the laws, regulations and policies that govern social work programs.
- Requires assessment skills, organizational and time management skills, the ability to collaborate with community partners and citizens of Forsyth County.
- Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively.
