Associate Nurse Unit Manager - Oncology/Haematology/Palliative/Medical

The Associate Nurse Unit Manager acts as a responsible and effective team member, assists in the overall clinical management of the ward, is responsible for the provision of comprehensive patient care and supervision of care given by junior staff in accordance with the Nurses and Midwifery Board of Australia Scope of Practice and deputises for and assists the Nursing Unit Manager.

3 North comprises an Oncology/ Haematology / Palliative and Medical ward which brings together clinicians from a wide range of disciplines associated with cancer treatment, respiratory, endocrinology, renal and general medicine. We pride ourselves on providing a high standard of professional and multidisciplinary care with compassion and expertise.

We currently have a part-time opportunity available at a preferred 0.8 FTE, with flexibility to discuss arrangements for the right candidate.

The Position

• Monitors staff levels against budget/target levels related to number of bed days, occupancy and patient acuity. Adjusts staffing levels in consultation with the Unit Manager and/or Coordinator according to changes in levels.

• Provide leadership and direction to team in the absence of the Nursing Unit Manager and act as a role model and resource person.

• Responsible for assisting the Nurse Unit Manager in following issues pertaining to human resources within the department and will assume full responsibility in the absence of the Nurse Unit Manager.

• Maintains and promotes harmonious interpersonal relationships and effective team work between staff, patient, relative, doctors and ancillary staff.

• Participate as a valued team member promoting and contributing to a supportive team environment.

• Participate in, contribute to and implement quality improvement and risk management into all aspects of service.

• Participate in the documentation of Risk Assessments and Standard Operating Procedures for activities that could pose an OHS risk.

• Raise OHS issues with appropriate caregivers and take part in OHS consultative arrangements.

• Assess education needs at a ward level and assist caregivers to maintain a high level of clinical nursing skills by providing on shift support and structured education sessions.

• Demonstrates progress towards the achievement of goals and personal and professional growth.

You will have a registration with Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse and at least 2 years post graduate experience in Oncology nursing, have well developed analytical and problem-solving skills and knowledge of acts and legislation that impact on the practice of nursing.  With demonstrated ability to develop and build effective nursing, medical and interdisciplinary relationships and teams. Previous experience in a clinical managerial role or experience being in charge of an acute ward will be highly regarded.

Availability across all shifts including AM / PM / ND both during the week and weekends is required for this position.

• Salary: $120,835 to $124,903 (pro rata for part time), plus 12% superannuation

• Part Time position, open to job share if multiple suitable candidates are found
