Are you passionate about transforming complex data into meaningful business value? Do you thrive at the intersection of business, technology, and analytics? If so, ING Belgium is looking for a Senior Data & Analytics Engineer to join our Investment Tribe.
In this role, you'll play a pivotal part in building and enhancing our investment data ecosystem. You'll collaborate with business stakeholders, product owners, and engineering teams to create scalable data solutions, deliver actionable insights, and support strategic decision-making across our investment products and customer journeys.
This position combines data engineering and business data translation (70%) with analytics and business insights (30%), making it ideal for someone who enjoys both designing robust data solutions and uncovering insights that drive business performance.
Your Impact
As a Senior Data & Analytics Engineer, you will:
Drive Data Engineering Excellence
- Partner with business stakeholders and product teams to understand investment processes, goals, and data requirements.
- Translate business needs into scalable data models, engineering specifications, and end-to-end solutions.
- Design, build, and optimize reliable data pipelines and transformation frameworks.
- Develop high-quality, reusable datasets that support investment use cases and enterprise standards.
- Ensure strong data quality, governance, lineage, and consistency across investment domains.
- Automate data ingestion, transformation, validation, and reporting processes.
- Support regulatory, risk, and compliance reporting through trusted data assets.
- Enhance ING Belgium's investment data platform and data strategy.
- Enable self-service analytics through curated datasets, semantic models, and reporting foundations.
- Identify opportunities to improve data reliability, performance, and operational efficiency.
- Define business rules, KPIs, and data definitions in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Document data flows, transformation logic, and technical specifications.
- Champion best practices in data engineering, governance, and agile delivery.
Unlock Business Insights
- Perform advanced analyses to support strategic, commercial, and operational decisions.
- Develop dashboards, KPI reporting, and analytical solutions focused on investment performance and customer behavior.
- Deliver meaningful insights on investment trends, portfolio performance, sales effectiveness, and customer engagement.
- Support stakeholders with ad-hoc analyses and performance monitoring.
- Translate complex analytical findings into clear business recommendations.
- Contribute to predictive analytics and trend analysis initiatives.
- Promote data literacy and foster a data-driven culture throughout the Investment Tribe.
What You'll Bring
Required Experience & Skills
- 7+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics, or data management within banking, investments, wealth management, or financial services.
- Proven ability to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Advanced SQL skills and strong expertise in data transformation and optimization.
- Hands-on experience with modern data engineering practices, including:
- ETL/ELT processes
- Data modeling
- Pipeline orchestration
- Automation frameworks
- Experience with reporting and analytics tools such as Power BI, Excel, and SAS.
- Familiarity with Python.
- Experience working with investment products and data, including mutual funds, ETFs, discretionary portfolios, and performance metrics.
- Strong knowledge of data governance, data quality management, and metadata management.
- Experience working in Agile environments and cross-functional teams.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to connect business processes, customer behaviour, and data structures.
Nice to Have
- Experience with cloud-based data platforms and enterprise data ecosystems.
- Knowledge of banking or investment regulatory reporting and financial controls.
- Exposure to predictive analytics, machine learning, or advanced statistical techniques.
- Experience creating scalable semantic models and reusable analytical products.
- Coaching and mentoring experience.
- Curiosity and a passion for understanding end-to-end business and data processes.
