Description
It's fun to work in a company where people truly BELIEVE in what they're doing!
As Master Data Custodian, you are the guardian of the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of the Bakeries master data across all platforms – specifically the ERP systems Oracle (E-Business Suite) and Mozaic. You own the day-to-day integrity of customer and item (product) master data, ensuring it is meticulously maintained, aligned across source systems, and fit for operational and strategic decision-making.Data Accuracy, Completeness & Synchronisation
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of customer and item master data in Oracle and Mozaic at all times.
- Perform line-by-line, field-by-field validation between Oracle and Mozaic; correct in Oracle first, then align Mozaic.
- Identify misaligned fields, prepare mass-update files, and coordinate with IT to facilitate bulk updates into Mozaic.
- Maintain ongoing synchronisation so that Oracle and Mozaic remain aligned as the data lake source of truth.
Data Governance & Stewardship
- Act as Data Steward for the Bakeries customer and item master domains, supporting the designated Data Owner.
- Apply and enforce master data standards, business definitions and the business glossary in line with the enterprise Data Governance Framework.
- Support the Master Data / Data Quality Standard and Responsible Data-use principles (Single Source of Truth, capture-once, reuse consistently).
- Participate in data stewardship forums and escalate cross-domain or systemic data issues appropriately.
Master Data Change Request Management
- Act as primary point of contact for customer and item master change requests, ensuring proper review, approval and implementation.
- Enforce controls that prevent unauthorised or uncontrolled manual changes to Oracle-sourced data in Mozaic.
- Coordinate item master creation and de-activation and confirm/support the designated Albany item master custodianship for SKU alignment.
Data Audits, Quality & Exception Reporting
- Conduct regular audits of master data against internal policies, POPIA and external regulations.
- Validate and use the Master Data Quality dashboard (e.g. MicroStrategy) for exception reporting; log incidents where data or dashboards are inaccurate.
- Track and remediate data quality metrics – completeness, validity, uniqueness, and consistency – addressing root causes at source.
Project MIX & Data Lake Enablement
- Drive the Bakeries master data clean-up required before Mozaic onboarding into the data lake, against agreed target dates.
- Contribute to data modelling, naming conventions and definitions for Mozaic-only fields (e.g. route, sales rep, AR account, statement group) using business-friendly, system-agnostic terms.
- Provide weekly status updates (progress, completion dates, next steps, blockers) to the Project MIX programme manager.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with IT, Sales, Finance, Supply Chain and the Project MIX / IT delivery teams to gather, verify and validate master data inputs.
- Facilitate cross-departmental alignment on customer hierarchy, segmentation and item structures.
Reporting, Documentation & Continuous Improvement
- Prepare and distribute regular reports on master data quality – key metrics, trends and areas for improvement.
- Document and maintain standard operating procedures for master data entry, maintenance and governance.
- Identify and implement process and system improvements, including automation of recurring clean-up and validation tasks.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (NQF 7) in Information Management, Data Science, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related Sales / Reporting field – Essential.
- Data governance or data management certification (e.g. DAMA / CDMP) – Advantageous
- 3–5 years’ operational experience in data management, master data or reporting within an FMCG / manufacturing environment – Essential
- Hands-on experience with ERP systems, particularly Oracle E-Business Suite and Mozaic – Highly desirable
- Exposure to data governance frameworks, data lake / data warehouse initiatives, and data quality tooling – Recommended
