What you'll do
Help protect New Zealanders through science, regulation, and public safety.
Join the Office of Radiation Safety and play a vital role in regulating the safe use of radiation sources across Aotearoa New Zealand. This is a unique opportunity to apply your technical expertise in a role that combines regulation, compliance, investigation, and stakeholder engagement. You'll contribute to safeguarding public and occupational health, support evidence-based decision-making, and help ensure New Zealand's radiation safety framework remains effective, trusted, and fit for the future.
Assess and process radiation licence, consent, and import/export applications, providing sound regulatory advice and decisions.
Conduct inspections, investigations, and enforcement activities to support compliance with radiation safety legislation.
Research, analyse, and provide technical advice to support regulatory decision-making and programme delivery.
Contribute to regulatory improvements, helping develop and refine processes, tools, guidance, and frameworks.
Build strong relationships with regulated parties and stakeholders while promoting equity and Te Tiriti commitments in your work.
Ko ngā pūkenga ōu - What you’ll bring
Strong knowledge of radiation safety principles, practices, and regulatory frameworks, with a relevant qualification or equivalent experience.
Experience applying sound judgement and critical thinking to assess risks, develop options, and provide advice.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to explain complex technical issues and manage sensitive conversations.
Strong organisation, planning, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritise work, meet deadlines, and maintain high levels of accuracy.
Willingness and ability to conduct inspections across New Zealand, including eligibility for a radiation use licence and a full NZ driver licence.
Desirable: Experience conducting inspections or investigations, postgraduate study in radiation physics or a related field, and membership of a relevant professional body.
