Job Summary:

Manages the operations and assists in providing leadership and direction for effective, uniform, and economic accomplishments of the various sections to include the Mississippi Med-Com, Emergency Management, and intra-facility patient transport. To develop, manage, coordinate and implement programs related to Mississippi Med-Com, and air/ground transport. To perform all job duties in accordance with the medical centers purpose.

Education & Experience

Education and Experience Required:

Degree (Associate's or Bachelor's) and four (4) years of healthcare, emergency communications, or emergency management experience including one (1) year of leadership experience.

Certifications, Licenses or Registration required

Valid RN license or MS Paramedic BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIMS ICS 100 200, 700, and 800. Certification in Neonatal Resuscitation required post-hire within six (6) months.

Preferred Qualifications:

Two (2) years of supervisory experience in a communications center preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists in providing leadership and direction for effective, uniform, and economic accomplishments of assigned areas.
  • Collaborates with leadership to facilitate the growth and external services of Mississippi Med-Com and air/ground transport.
  • Collaborates with UMMC leadership, main campus and community hospitals to facilitate transfers and patient movement within and into UMMC system.
  • Provides direction and planning for the development of the med-com system with the Mississippi wireless integrated network.
  • Leads project teams (virtual, matrix) and applies effective project management processes, including managing stake holder expectations, communications, budget management, schedule management, performance reporting for assigned projects.
  • Directs daily operations of patient transport and dispatch services, while promoting the medical center's mission and keeping safety first.
  • Maintains scope, budget and schedule integrity though direct management of the team and interaction with the clinical director or project sponsor, including development and maintenance of project management, resource management, cost management, contract management, and communications management.
  • Benchmarks performance models, to allocate the resources to the most critical services to achieve the institutional goals of quality and innovation.  Uses tailoring methodologies, processes and practices to manage projects.
  • Monitors and evaluates programmatic and operational effectiveness and makes changes as necessary. Negotiates accounts with new and existing vendors to maximize resources and utilization.
  • Participates in management discussions, decisions, policy making and shares in the responsibility to top management actions covering all activities related to emergency service under the direction of the clinical director.
  • Manages a team of staff involved in communications and disaster management/mitigation. Provides effective and timely performance management that clearly defines work expectations, recognizes and rewards individuals for a job well done, provides disciplinary counseling when necessary, and conducts timely performance appraisals adhering to UMMC standards, working with their HR Business partners.
  • Assists in outreach and community education both on campus and off campus, occasionally requiring travel and overnight stays.
  • Collaborates with transport vendors to reconcile and review charts to ensure appropriate patient charges.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert for both hospital and state committees as they relate to MS MED-COM operations.
  • Assists Public Safety Support Division with sensitive field communications operations as well as physicals, this may require travel and overnight stays.

Requires occasional exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours, occasional travelling to offsite locations, constant activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, constant work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, occasional bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds, occasional driving, frequent reaching, constant sitting, frequent standing, occasional twisting, and constant walking. (occasional-up to 20%, frequent-from 21% to 50%, constant-51% or more)
