Recreation Manager
SCHEDULE
Weekday evenings and Saturday mornings, approximately 5 - 15 hours per week
The Recreation Site Supervisor is responsible for supervising and supporting recreation programs, athletic leagues, and activities at various City of Holland sports and recreation facilities. This position serves as the on-site point of contact and helps ensure programs are conducted in a safe, organized, and welcoming environment. The Recreation Site Supervisor monitors facilities and surrounding areas, communicates with participants, spectators, staff, coaches, and officials, and promotes compliance with program rules, safety procedures, and City policies.
- Supervise recreation programs, athletic leagues, and activities at assigned sites to ensure they are conducted in a safe, organized, and professional manner.
- Serve as the primary on-site contact for participants, parents, spectators, coaches, officials, and staff.
- Enforce program rules, league regulations, facility policies, safety procedures, and applicable City of Holland ordinances.
- Monitor assigned facilities and surrounding areas to identify safety concerns, inappropriate conduct, maintenance issues, or other conditions requiring attention.
- Support the safe, clean, and sanitary operation of assigned facilities and program areas.
- Maintain knowledge of applicable sport league rules, guidelines, schedules, and program procedures and assist with their implementation.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with participants, parents, spectators, coaches, officials, staff, and members of the public.
- Respond to questions, concerns, and complaints and report significant issues or incidents to the appropriate staff member.
- Maintain order and address participant or spectator behavior in a firm, fair, and respectful manner.
- Assist with program setup, facility operations, equipment needs, and other responsibilities necessary for successful program delivery.
- Complete incident reports, program documentation, attendance records, or other required reports accurately and in a timely manner.
- Perform other duties related to the operation of recreation programs and facilities as directed by the Recreation Manager or Recreation Coordinator.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with participants, parents, spectators, officials, staff, and the general public.
- Ability to enforce rules, regulations, safety procedures, and City policies with firmness, tact, fairness, and professionalism.
- Previous experience assisting with, supervising, coaching, officiating, or managing recreation programs, athletic leagues, events, or similar activities preferred.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions and carry out responsibilities with limited supervision.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and complete reports with minimal direction.
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and courteous when responding to conflicts, complaints, emergencies, or other challenging situations.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a recreation team.
- Work is performed at indoor and outdoor recreation facilities and may include exposure to hot, cold, or changing weather conditions.
- Work may include exposure to dust, dirt, noise, moving equipment or objects, and cleaning or maintenance chemicals.
- The position requires regular interaction with recreation participants, spectators, coaches, officials, staff, and the general public.
- Evening and weekend availability is required based on program and league schedules.
