About the job

The Host / Hostess is the first point of contact for guests entering the restaurant or outlet and is responsible for creating a warm, welcoming, and personalized arrival experience. The role manages guest seating, reservations, table allocation, and communication with the service team to ensure a smooth and memorable dining experience in accordance with the hotel's luxury service standards.

As Host / Hostess you will be responsible for the following duties:

Guest Welcome & Service

• Welcome and acknowledge all guests warmly, professionally, and promptly upon arrival.
• Create a positive first impression by demonstrating genuine hospitality and attentive service.
• Escort guests to their tables and assist with seating arrangements.
• Provide menus and communicate relevant information regarding the outlet, daily specials, promotions, and facilities.
• Identify and respond to guest preferences and special requests whenever possible.
• Maintain awareness of VIP guests, repeat guests, special occasions, and guest preferences.
• Handle guest enquiries, requests, and feedback professionally and escalate concerns to the appropriate supervisor when required.
• Bid farewell to guests warmly and thank them for dining with the hotel.

Reservations & Table Management

• Manage restaurant reservations accurately using the hotel's reservation system.
• Confirm, amend, and update guest reservations as required.
• Maintain an accurate seating plan and manage table allocation according to operational requirements.
• Monitor table availability and coordinate seating with the service team.
• Manage walk-in guests and waiting lists professionally.
• Communicate expected waiting times accurately to guests.
• Coordinate with the Restaurant Manager and service team regarding table status, guest flow, and special requirements.
• Ensure reservations and guest information are handled with appropriate confidentiality.

Communication & Coordination

• Maintain effective communication with waitstaff, Restaurant Manager, Kitchen, and other F&B departments.
• Inform the service team of guest preferences, special occasions, dietary requirements, and other relevant information.
• Coordinate with the Kitchen and service team to manage guest flow during peak periods.
• Communicate operational updates and guest requests during daily briefings.
• Assist the team in maintaining smooth restaurant operations during busy periods.

Guest Experience & Brand Standards

• Deliver service in accordance with Mandarin Oriental's luxury service standards and the hotel's service philosophy.
• Demonstrate excellent knowledge of the restaurant's menu, concept, opening hours, facilities, and current promotions.
• Recognize returning guests and provide personalized service whenever possible.
• Maintain a professional and polished appearance in accordance with grooming standards.
• Protect guest privacy and handle guest information with discretion.
• Proactively identify opportunities to enhance the guest experience.

Operational Duties

• Maintain cleanliness, organization, and presentation of the host/hostess station, entrance, and waiting area.
• Ensure menus, reservation materials, and guest information are properly maintained and available.
• Assist with setting up and closing the outlet as required.
• Monitor guest traffic and support the team in managing peak periods.
• Assist other F&B areas when operationally required.
• Follow all hotel policies, SOPs, food safety, hygiene, and health and safety requirements.
• Report any maintenance, safety, or operational concerns to the supervisor promptly.

As Host / Hostess, we expect from you: 

Educational Background

• Minimum 1–2 years of experience in a Host/Hostess, Guest Relations, Restaurant Reception, or similar F&B role, preferably in a luxury hotel or resort.
• Previous experience in a high-end restaurant or international hotel is an advantage.
• Diploma or certificate in Hospitality, Food & Beverage, or a related field is preferred.

Skills

• Good command of English; additional languages are an advantage.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Pleasant personality with a genuine passion for guest service.
• Well-groomed, confident, and professional in appearance.
• Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
• Willing to work shifts, weekends, public holidays, and according to operational requirements.
