ABOUT THIS JOB
Position Description Summary
The Senior Engineering Technician position at the City of Tucson’s Water Department is responsible for preparing and reviewing water pipeline and facility design plans that support the planning, design, and construction of the City's water infrastructure. This position ensures compliance with Tucson Water standards, specifications, and applicable regulations.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Civil Engineer. This position does not supervise.
Prepares, reviews, and revises water pipeline and facility design plans in accordance with Tucson Water standards, specifications, City Code, and applicable regulations. Develops construction drawings and sketches utilizing AutoCAD and Autodesk Civil 3D under the direction of a Project Engineer or Project Manager.
Reviews preliminary layouts and engineering designs for new and existing water distribution and production facilities. Organizes and maintains project drawings, revisions, records, and electronic files; incorporates design changes and coordinates with project team members to support the completion of construction documents and assist with obtaining missing information.
Revises drawings to incorporate red-marked revisions, verbal instructions, and project comments; requests and receives data from involved parties and inputs information into project databases or spreadsheets, as appropriate, to support the completion of construction designs.
Performs technical design work, research, and engineering calculations related to hydraulics, hydrology, water distribution, sewer, and drainage systems.
Drives to project sites to perform field visits, collect project information, verify existing conditions, and assist with the preparation of as-built drawings.
Ensures engineering plans comply with established standards, specifications, policies, and regulatory requirements.
Works independently and collaboratively while supporting engineering projects and contributing to project objectives.
Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.
Working Conditions:
Some exposure to light physical or environmental conditions (noise, dust, weather, etc.).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications:Associate degree in a related field and two (2) years of relevant experience.
*Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
At least two (2) years of computer-aided drafting, geographic information systems, or in collecting, analyzing or processing field samples and data
At least three (3) years of progressive work experience using Autodesk Civil 3D
Experience in:
Autodesk Civil3D for preparation of engineering drawings for water replacement projects and water production facilities
Autodesk Civil 3D for importing survey points to develop new and existing main water replacement projects and water production facilities
Design proficiency, creating and working with surface tins and 3D surfaces along with grading, drainage, water, sewer and roadway plans.
