TS Data Governance & AI Readiness Lead

Your role

Transaction Services (TS) is one of ING Wholesale Banking’s core growth businesses, serving corporate and institutional clients across Payments, Trade, Accounts & Cash Management, Reporting & Cards, and Pricing & Billing.

As TS continues to grow and invest in data, AI and digital capabilities, trusted data is becoming a strategic asset. The quality, ownership and usability of our data directly influence client experience, risk management, operational efficiency, regulatory confidence and our ability to deploy AI at scale.

The Data Governance & AI Readiness Lead is responsible for strengthening the foundations that make this possible. The mandate of this role is to establish trusted data as a strategic asset across TS, enabling better client outcomes, stronger risk management, regulatory confidence and responsible AI adoption at scale.

What you will do

You will work across Payments, Trade, Accounts & Cash Management, Reporting & Cards and Pricing & Billing to:  

• Establish and continuously improve TS capabilities for data ownership, data quality, metadata, lineage, data controls and stewardship, in line with regulatory and group standards, and in service of our customers

• Embed governance into how TS operates and delivers, ensuring that governance becomes a business capability that safeguards value to customers rather than a compliance exercise

• Lead the implementation and maturation of BCBS239 and related data governance capabilities across TS

• Challenge established practices, strengthen them, while simplifying them, and remove unnecessary complexity that slows decision making or delivery, and compromises outcomes for our customers

• Focus governance efforts on regulatory, operationally critical and commercially critical data elements.

• Establish a product-centric approach to data, ensuring critical data assets have clear ownership, quality standards, and lifecycle management

• Ensure data used in analytics, automation and AI use cases meets agreed standards for quality, traceability, ownership and regulatory compliance

• Working with stakeholders across the business, identify and address the root causes of data quality, ownership, lineage and control challenges

• Be the primary TS authority on data governance and is responsible for driving resolution of governance issues through established governance forums and escalation channels.

You will work closely with TS leadership, Data Owners, Executive Data Stewards, Delegated Data Owners and Business Data Stewards to ensure governance is embedded into day-to-day delivery and decision making.

You will help build an organisation where:

• Critical data has clear ownership, accountability and decision rights.

• Data quality issues are identified and resolved before they impact clients, operations or regulatory obligations.

• Data products are trusted, discoverable, reusable and fit for business and AI consumption.

• Regulatory compliance is embedded into delivery rather than addressed through retrospective remediation.

• Data lineage, metadata and controls provide transparency across critical processes and data flows.

• Teams spend less time reconciling data and more time using it to create value.

• Risk, business and technology teams operate from a shared understanding of trusted information.

• AI solutions are built on governed, traceable and reliable data foundations.

The ideal candidate combines deep data governance and data management expertise with a builder's mindset. They think in systems and are able to connect business outcomes, operating processes, technology platforms and regulatory requirements into practical solutions.

They are comfortable moving from strategy into execution, identifying root causes, simplifying complexity and implementing practical solutions that improve data trust, control effectiveness and business outcomes.

They are equally comfortable challenging senior stakeholders, influencing without authority and driving adoption across large, distributed organisations.

They are relentless in improving data quality, strengthening accountability and creating the foundations that enable TS to scale safely, efficiently and with confidence.
