Description

Reporting to the Director of Enrollment Marketing and Communications, the Social Media Marketing Specialist plans, creates, and manages audience-centered social media content for assigned Enrollment Management and Academic Engagement accounts and audiences, primarily serving prospective and admitted undergraduate and graduate students and, as assigned, current-student audiences. Working from approved enrollment priorities and marketing strategies, the incumbent develops channel-specific recommendations and content plans; creates original text, photo, and short-form video content; manages work through required review and approval processes; publishes and monitors content; engages with followers in accordance with established guidance; and uses performance data to recommend improvements.

The incumbent collaborates with university brand, digital, enrollment, and academic engagement partners and promptly escalates sensitive, reputational, approval, or capacity concerns to the Director of Enrollment Marketing and Communications.

Position Specific Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • Serve as the primary social media owner for undergraduate and graduate enrollment accounts, including planning, content creation, scheduling and publishing, community management, and performance reporting. Provide advisory support, proofreading, and first-level approval for assigned partner-managed content, including CPD social media content, before Director review. Monitor other Enrollment Management and Academic Engagement social media accounts for alignment with university brand, editorial, accessibility, and content standards; provide guidance and escalate concerns when appropriate.

  • Develop and maintain annual, campaign-level, and short-term social media content calendars. Create, capture, and edit original text, photography, visual content, and short-form video appropriate to each platform and audience. Schedule and publish approved content through designated social media management systems. Ensure content is accurate, audience-centered, accessible, and consistent with university brand, editorial, privacy, permission, and content/usage-rights requirements.

  • Provide on-site social media content capture and coverage for selected student-facing enrollment and university events, including occasional evening and weekend assignments. Coordinate coverage plans, student support, content priorities, and publishing expectations in advance when feasible.

  • Manage assigned social media work from approved brief through content development, internal review, required stakeholder approval, publication, and performance reporting. Maintain accurate project plans, deadlines, approvals, and status updates in university-designated systems, and promptly communicate stalled decisions, potential delays, capacity constraints, or competing priorities to the Director of Enrollment Marketing and Communications.

  • Contribute social media content and engagement expertise to approved admitted and committed student campaigns and digital initiatives, including content for admitted-student web portals and digital communities, in partnership with the teams responsible for those platforms and strategies.

  • Recommend when individual posts or content series should receive paid support. With appropriate approval, implement, monitor, and report on boosted social media content using approved platforms, audiences, budgets, and processes, coordinating with paid-media colleagues when appropriate.

  • Prepare and present monthly social media performance reports to the Director of Enrollment Marketing and Communications and relevant stakeholders. Summarize performance against established goals, identify meaningful audience and content trends, and provide clear recommendations for future planning and execution.

  • Supervise assigned student employees and interns as an extension of the Enrollment Marketing and Communications team. Establish expectations, assign and schedule work, maintain regular communication, provide coaching and feedback, evaluate performance, review deliverables, and ensure completed work meets established quality and brand standards.

  • Monitor comments, messages, tags, and relevant conversations across assigned accounts. Respond or route questions in accordance with established guidance, maintain appropriate response times, and promptly escalate sensitive, reputational, safety-related, or otherwise high-risk matters.

  • Collaborate with university social media colleagues on social listening and coordinated content opportunities. Monitor platform developments, audience behavior, emerging formats, and relevant trends; assess their potential value or risk; and recommend appropriate applications for enrollment audiences. Maintain relevant professional knowledge and share findings through recommendations, presentations, or training as appropriate.

  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
