Crescent Energy is seeking an experienced Manager, Operations & Joint Venture Accounting to join our Houston-based Accounting organization. This position will be responsible for leading the company's operational accounting, joint venture accounting, inventory accounting, cost allocation, and related close and reporting activities across operated and non-operated upstream assets. The role is expected to oversee key accounting processes related to joint interest billings, partner settlements, non-operated accounting, capital and lease operating expense accounting, inventory management, COPAS compliance, and acquisition integration activities.

The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of oil and gas accounting experience, including significant experience in joint venture accounting, operational accounting, COPAS accounting procedures, and accounting close processes. This role requires a collaborative leader who can effectively partner with Operations, Land, Revenue Accounting, Regulatory Accounting, Accounts Payable, Financial Reporting, and Finance teams while driving process improvements, strengthening internal controls, and developing accounting staff. The successful candidate will possess deep expertise in joint venture accounting and COPAS practices, including interpretation of Joint Operating Agreements, administration of overhead provisions, support of partner audits, and resolution of complex joint interest accounting matters.

Reports to the Operations Accounting Controller

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead the Company's operational accounting and joint venture accounting functions for operated and non-operated assets, including monthly close, reporting, and account reconciliation activities.
  • Oversee accounting for lease operating expenses, capital expenditures, inventory, and cost allocation processes.
  • Manage joint interest billing activities, including partner billings, cash calls, settlements, netting, accounts receivable, and collections.
  • Serve as the Company's subject matter expert for COPAS Accounting Procedures, Joint Operating Agreements, and joint venture accounting practices, including administration of COPAS overhead rates.
  • Partner with Operations, Land, Revenue Accounting, Regulatory Accounting, and Finance teams to support operational accounting activities, acquisitions, divestitures, and integration efforts.
  • Lead responses to partner inquiries, billing disputes, and joint venture audits while ensuring compliance with contractual and accounting requirements.
  • Develop, mentor, and lead accounting personnel while promoting accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance processes, strengthen internal controls, automate activities, and improve the efficiency and scalability of the accounting organization.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 10 or more years of oil and gas accounting experience.
  • 5 or more years of progressive leadership, supervisory, or management experience.
  • Significant experience with joint venture accounting, joint interest billings, operational accounting, and monthly close processes.
  • Deep expertise in COPAS Accounting Procedures, Joint Operating Agreements, Joint Interest Billing (JIB), partner audits, overhead administration, and dispute resolution.
  • Demonstrated experience administering COPAS provisions, including overhead calculations, audit support, cost recoveries, and dispute resolution.
  • Strong understanding of upstream operations, capital accounting, cost allocations, inventory accounting, and accrual processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Accredited Petroleum Accountant (APA) designation a plus.
  • Experience presenting accounting analyses and recommendations to executive leadership.
  • Proven success supporting acquisitions, integrations, and large-scale organizational growth.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing accounting teams.
  • Experience with leading upstream oil and gas accounting platforms and ERP systems, including SAP.
