PAY RANGE:

$56,750 - $63,844  Annually


PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Youth Director oversees the development and operations of their assigned overall child care program and/or assigned child care sites, ensuring the program meets its intended goals. Stationed at an off-site location, the Youth Director will have direct supervision of one site location. This position also serves as the liaison between the school administration (or other off-site location) and faculty, the Y, and the Y Site Coordinator. The Youth Director supports the Site Coordinators in the daily supervision of program participants and provides guidance and assistance to them in the planning, development, and implementation of program components and activities. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/FUNCTIONS:

1. Manages school-aged childcare programs, including developing and monitoring the program budget to meet fiscal objectives; compiling program statistics to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in the program; securing, scheduling, and maintaining the needed facilities; creating and scheduling the activities or events; and maintaining program records or files. 

2. Works with assigned Site Coordinators to administer the day-to-day operation of programs, ensuring that all the program components and SOPs are adhered to. 


3. Oversees Site Coordinators to monitor staff schedules at all times, modifying it as necessary to maintain appropriate staff-to-child ratios. Makes arrangements for substitute staffing as needed. 

 4. Provides leadership in coordinating with the school’s administration, teachers, community partnerships, and/or branch team for successful program implementation.

5. Works with Site Coordinator to evaluate the program quality, implementing necessary remedial steps when necessary. 

6. Manages communication between Site Coordinators and Membership/Facilities/Aquatics Directors when the program takes place at the branch or in shared spaces.

7. Assures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as they relate to program areas, including ADA accommodations where appropriate; ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed. 

8. Adheres to policies, standard operating procedures, and handbooks related to boundaries with youth.

9. Participates and attends all required abuse risk management training. 

10. Adheres to standards & procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising youth.

11. Reports any suspicious, inappropriate behaviors and policy violations to the supervisor immediately and complies with mandated YMCA and State of Hawaii abuse reporting requirements. 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience preferred. 
  • YMCA Team Leader certification preferred. 
  • One to two years related experience (e.g., supervisor or coordinator of child care programs) preferred.
  • Minimum age of 21. 
  • Reliable transportation to and from assigned locations required. 
  • Child Abuse Prevention training required within 30 days of hire. 
  • Able to be CPR, First Aid, and AED certified. 
  • Fulfillment of state-specific hiring standards and completion of YMCA program-specific training.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

  • Requires sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to safely supervise both indoor and outdoor program activities which includes standing, sitting, walking and possible running after children. 
  • Proficient in computer and phone/smart device use and Microsoft Word and Excel programs.
  • Requires frequent sitting and reaching, and mobility around the work environment, which includes both indoor and outdoor settings. 
  • Requires occasional lifting and moving of items 10 pounds (e.g. tables), or more.  
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
  • Moderate noise level. 
  • Requires various shifts, Monday-Sunday, depending on the program, including holidays as needed.
