Senior Associate, Electrician Non-CDL

Under the direction of the Airfield Electrical Supervisor and guidance of Journeyman Electricians and Master Senior Electricians, works on the installation, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and replacement of airfield and non-airfield electrical systems supporting DFW Airport operations. Performs work in accordance with established safety procedures while learning FAA Part 139 Airport Certification requirements, applicable FAA Advisory Circulars, the Airport Certification Manual (ACM), National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA standards, OSHA regulations, and DFW Airport policies to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant airport electrical infrastructure. 

What you will be doing:

• Assists Journeyman and Master Electricians in the installation, maintenance, inspection, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of airfield and non-airfield electrical systems including airfield lighting systems, roadway lighting, terminal facilities, parking structures, maintenance facilities, utility infrastructure, security gates, and other electrical equipment.

• Assists in maintaining FAA Part 139-compliant airfield lighting systems, including runway lighting, taxiway lighting, guidance signs, PAPIs, REILs, guard lights, stop bars, obstruction lighting, apron lighting, and associated control systems.

• Learns and applies FAA Part 139 Airport Certification requirements, FAA Advisory Circulars (including AC 150/5340 series), Airport Certification Manual (ACM), National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA standards, OSHA regulations, and DFW Airport safety policies.

• Assists with preventive maintenance and inspections of Airfield Lighting Vaults (ALVs), constant current regulators (CCRs), isolation transformers, series circuits, switchgear, control systems, and associated electrical infrastructure.

• Assists in performing electrical testing using insulation resistance testers, multimeters, clamp meters, circuit tracers, and other diagnostic equipment under the direction of qualified electricians.

• Performs electrical switching, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and restoration activities under direct supervision and in accordance with established safety procedures.

• Documents completed maintenance activities, inspections, deficiencies, and corrective actions using the Airport's Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

• Assists in preparing electrical systems for FAA inspections, Airport Certification inspections, operational audits, and regulatory reviews.

• Participates in emergency response, winter weather operations, power restoration, and airport operational support activities as assigned.

• Partners with departments, contractors, utilities, and other DFW Airport Stakeholders in support of airport operational needs.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

What you need:

• Completion of high school curriculum or equivalent.

• One (1) year of experience maintaining commercial, industrial, airport, utility, or medium-voltage electrical systems.

• Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the above.

• Possession of an Apprentice Electrician license issued by the State of Texas.

• Ability to work rotating shift assignments.

• Ability to pass a color vision deficiency test.

• Ability to pass a medical physical examination.

• Possession of a valid Class B CDL driver’s license within one (1) year of hire.  Operator’s licenses with an “L” restriction are not acceptable.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

• Knowledge of basic electrical theory and commercial or industrial electrical systems.

• Knowledge of working safely around aircraft movement areas, energized electrical equipment, heavy equipment, roadway traffic, and construction zones.

• Ability to learn and comply with FAA Part 139 Airport Certification requirements, FAA Advisory Circulars, Airport Certification Manual (ACM), National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA standards, OSHA electrical safety requirements, lockout/tagout (LOTO), medium-voltage awareness, and DFW Airport safety procedures.

• Ability to learn FAA airfield lighting systems and associated control equipment.

• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, blueprints, and manufacturer technical manuals.

• Ability to safely use electrical testing equipment and hand tools under supervision.

• Ability to accurately document maintenance activities using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).

• Ability to recognize electrical hazards and follow established safety procedures.

• Ability to work effectively as part of a team while receiving technical instruction and mentoring from Journeyman and Master Electricians.

• Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, contractors, and Airport stakeholders.

• Ability to complete required training related to FAA regulations, Airport Certification Manual (ACM), electrical safety, lockout/tagout (LOTO), medium-voltage awareness, and airport operations.

Special requirements

• Must obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Airport Identification/Access Badge (badge) in accordance with Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requirements in Chapter 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 1500 et al., and DFW Airport’s Airport Security Program within thirty (30) days from date of employment and maintain qualification for a SIDA badge upon each badge renewal.

• This is a designated safety sensitive position as defined in DFW Airport’s Drug and Alcohol Administrative Policy and Procedure. Applicants selected for this position will be required to pass a drug test prior to employment and to submit to drug screening on a random basis during the length of their employment in the safety sensitive position.

• This is a designated Essential Employee position as defined in DFW Airport’s Categories and Classifications Administrative Policy and Procedure. An essential employee is one whose attendance is required to maintain airport operations during an emergency or inclement weather situation.

Effort

• Works in and around Board facilities, airport grounds and airport operations areas; works near roadways and moving aircraft.

• Works outdoors for extended periods of time in inclement weather.

• Performs manual labor, frequently exerting forces equivalent to lifting approximately up to 50 pounds, and occasionally exerting forces equivalent to lifting approximately up to 100 pounds.

• Works at various heights up to 100 feet; climbs and uses ladders and power-lift equipment.

• Works in awkward positions such as stooping, squatting or with arms above the head for extended periods of time.

• Uses hand tools, power tools, and precision equipment.

• Communicates by telephone, two-way radio and in person.

• Uses near visual acuity in diagnosing and repairing electrical systems.

• Uses color perception in working with electrical wiring and components.

• Operates vehicles on Airport property.
