Accessible Technology Resource Lab Technician - part-time/28 hrs per week

The Accessible Technology Resource Lab Technician provides training, organization, and leadership for the university’s Accessible Technology Resource Lab (ATRS). This position ensures students with disabilities have equitable access to instructional materials, educational technologies, and assistive technology through the production of accessible course content, alternative formats, and technology-based accommodations. The manager supervises student employees, develops operational procedures, and collaborates with faculty and campus partners to ensure compliance with disability laws and accessibility standards.

What You Will Be Doing In This Position

Leadership and Administration

• Oversee the daily operations of the ABC Editors in collaboration with the ATRS Coordinator.
• Coordinate the production of accessible instructional materials, including: electronic textbooks, accessible PDFs, Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, image descriptions, braille production, music braille, tactile graphics, visual description for multimedia (videos), and STEM and mathematics accessibility.
• Collaborate workflow with ABC editors, course materials with professors, and accessibility needs with UAC Coordinators.
• Analyze service data and prepare reports to evaluate productivity, effectiveness, and future resource needs.
• Prioritize production and quality of materials, including braille production, to meet academic deadlines.  Ensure materials comply with accessibility standards.
• Assist with technology solutions for students with disabilities.
• Consult and assist students, student employees, and the ATRS Lab Coordinator regarding accessible technology needs. Assist with training    student employees and new hires. Participate in goal planning and operational priorities.
• Build knowledge of accessible technology requirements, Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), and disability law.  Build knowledge of     emerging technologies and implement innovative accessibility solutions.
• Ensure university accessibility practices are compliant with applicable laws, regulations, and institutional policies.

What Qualifies You For This Role

Education/Experience

Minimum Required: 4 years’ experience working with information technology, disability studies, instructional technology, psychology, computer science or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.   

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 5 years of experience

Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications:

Required:  

• Expertise with computers, including accessible document creation and remediation.
• Knowledge of screen readers and other assistive technologies.
• Ability to lead teams, manage projects, and improve operational efficiency.
• Excellent problem-solving, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong commitment to disability access and accessible technology.
• Proficiency in reading standard music notation, required to operate GoodFeel music software.
• Experience in accessibility services, assistive technology, or accessible media production.
• Experience in project management, with excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated knowledge of assistive technology, digital accessibility, and alternative format production.
• Ability to manage multiple high-priority projects with competing deadlines.

Preferred:

• Core Competencies: Leadership and supervision; strategic planning; accessibility expertise; project management; collaboration and consultation;
• quality assurance; understanding of compliance; customer service; continuous improvement
• Software may include: Kurzweil 3000, GoodFeel, ABBYY FineReader, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and JAWS.
• Experience working with college students and students who use disability services.
• Experience with Braille production, tactile graphics, STEM accessibility, and accessible technology in a higher education setting.

Pay Grade: 51

Typical Starting Pay: $28.25-$36.75

The actual compensation offered will take into consideration internal equity and may vary based on the candidate’s job-related experience, knowledge, skills, and other relevant factors. Candidates with very significant work-related experience may receive an offer higher than the posted typical range.
