GENERAL FUNCTION:
Assists in cataloging C-SPAN programming, producing content for the C-SPAN.org homepage and serves as a reference and customer service resource to users.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reviews video in order to discern essence of the program and determine correct fields to enter into the database program. This is termed cataloging each master C-SPAN programming. Ensures each program is prepared for timely online viewing on the Video Library site.
  • Ability to follow standards for classifying programs, selecting appropriate keywords and program categories from the list. Names programs and writes program descriptions using language and terms consistent with C-SPAN internal standards.
  • Monitors and updates the C-SPAN.org homepage for editorial consistency and timeliness.
  • Schedules and monitors live streams of events for the website as needed.
  • Identifies preferred airing for each program and determines whether to split or combine master programs.
  • Edits Dalet in Indiana database entries for consistency with archival standards.
  • Monitors schedule for gaps and creates programs in schedule as needed.
  • Attaches people from Dalet media logger to create appearances in database.
  • Answers complex telephone calls and inquiries, and searches database.
  • Provides viewer and customer service assistance through responding to email and phone inquiries.
  • Performs QA on Electronic Program Guide for completeness in the viewer schedule.
  • Confers with Manager about database maintenance and makes suggestions for new keywords or classification of programs.
  • Assists with special production requirements including elections and processing remote videos.

BACKGROUND/SKILLS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Political Science or related discipline required.
  • A minimum of two years' related work experience.
  • Computer proficiency with Internet browsers, data entry and ability to learn to use data entry software programs.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of and interest in public affairs and politics.
