Description

Provides high-quality, evidence-based clinical care by working within the Oklahoma APRN scope of practice, current clinical guidelines, agency protocols, and applicable program requirements. Primarily responsible for, but not limited to, providing clinical services in   Family Planning/Reproductive Health, STI, and Adult Health programs while delivering patient-centered care and promoting equitable access to quality healthcare. Serves as a collaborative member of the Office of Preventative Health Services team and contributes to a positive workplace culture through professionalism, accountability, compassion, and respectful communication.
The following functions represent the majority of the duties performed by the position but are not meant to be all-inclusive or prevent other duties from being assigned when necessary.
ESSENTIALJOBFUNCTIONS:
  1. Obtain comprehensive health histories.
  2. Document medical information in the EHR in a standardized, systematic, and timely manner.
  3. Perform evidence-based physical examination on patients.
  4. Assess, diagnose, treat, and manage acute and chronic conditions with the APRN scope of practice.
  5. Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic and screening tests.
  6. Inform patients of test results, medications, and ancillary testing procedures per stated protocols and guidelines.
  7. Provide detailed patient education and counseling on various methods of contraception to include barrier, hormonal, non-hormonal, long-acting-reversible contraception, and sterilization for shared decision-making.
  8. Provide patient education and counseling on STI management, vaginitis, cervical cancer screening, and other preventative health services.
  9. Prescribe medications, including long-acting-reversible contraception, and treatment plans in accordance with evidence-based guidelines.
  10. Collaborate with client regarding plan of care, utilizing shared clinical decision-making.
  11. Motivate patients to assume personal responsibility for their own health.
  12. Consult and collaborate with health care providers and community agencies to coordinate comprehensive patient care and facilitate appropriate referrals when healthcare needs are outside the scope of THD. provide efficient and comprehensive health care.
  13. Answer nurse calls from patients, physicians, hospitals, and the general public.
  14. Provide professional expertise, consultation and technical assistance to public health nurses, ancillary staff, and students.
  15. Serve as a clinical resource and consultant to PHNs for urgent, complex, or unusual client concerns and medical emergencies.
  16. Serve as preceptor &/or mentor to PHNs, APRN students, nursing students, ancillary staff, medical students, and residents.
  17. Complete required training, quality improvement activities, and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements including national certification and state licensure.
  18. Adhere to the THD Code of Conduct.
  19. Other duties as assigned including those required to fulfill activities in support of public health emergency operations.
Education: 
  • Master’s or Doctoral degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner/APRN program. 
  • Recognition as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing.
  • Certification by a national nursing organization required.
Licenses:
  • Current Oklahoma Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license.
  • Current basic life support (BLS) certificate/card.
  • Nexplanon provider certification preferred.
  • Valid Oklahoma Driver’s License.
Experience: 
  • Three years of experience as a professional nurse preferred.
  • Experience in women’s health, family planning, public health, primary care, or community health preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of Nurse Practitioner (NP) clinical experience required.
Knowledge/Skills:
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, adaptation to multifaceted situations, and physical assessment skills are required to work effectively in this position.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practice of advanced practice nursing, particularly relating to public health nursing.
  • Excellentlisteningskillstoassureproper diagnosis.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Skillsininteractingwithpatientsofvariousculturalandsocioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in providing health education and counseling as well as providing skilled nursing care.

  • Proficiency with HER and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English), preferred.

INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
  • Internal contact with physicians, nurses, and other departments to exchange information regarding patient care and test results, and to discuss medical problems and treatment.
  • External contact with patients to gather and provide health assessments and other information, as well as advice and counseling; and with hospital personnel, private physicians, health departments, and medical institutions to exchange information regarding patient health, test results and treatment.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY/ACCOUNTABILITY:
Direct Supervision–Provides supervision to interns, residents, and APRN students if applicable.
Indirect Supervision–None.
Budget/Money/Material–Responsible for assigned equipment.
Reports to–Deputy Associate Director, Office of Preventative Health Services. Consult and take medical direction from the THD Medical Director.
Work Location: On-site. This position will be assigned to various work locations as needed (Central Regional Health Center and James O. Goodwin Health Center).

Work Status: Part-time (16 hr/wk)
Benefits: This position is not eligible for employee benefits.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Frequent bending and stooping are required. Nurses spend considerable amount of time standing, bending, stretching and walking. Must follow proper body mechanics. Occasionally physical effort is required to assist heavy clients. May lift equipment or supplies up to 40 pounds. Visual, tactile, auditory, and olfactory skills are required in obtaining client assessment.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Regular exposure to communicable disease, contaminated blood, and other body fluids during specimen collection for laboratory analysis. Appropriate PPE will be provided. Interactionwithoccasionalemotionalordisruptiveclients.Highvolumeandfast-pacedclinic.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must possess the ability and willingness to perform job-related travel between THD health centers.
  • Must maintain THD record confidentiality according to HIPAA regulations.
