Employment Type: Full Time
Location: Washington, DC
Reporting To: Head of Project Operations
Compensation: $120,000 - $140,000 / year
Description
The Business Analyst will serve as the bridge between business stakeholders, mortgage operations teams, and technology partners to identify, evaluate, and implement technology and AI-driven solutions that improve efficiency, accuracy, scalability, and the overall experience across the non-Agency mortgage lifecycle within the Loan Origination Systems.
This role is responsible for leading discovery with business teams to understand desired outcomes, evaluate current processes, and identify opportunities to simplify workflows, automate or eliminate manual activities, and leverage AI and emerging technologies where appropriate. Initial initiatives may include supporting the development of a loan acquisition platform, as well as technology and AI solutions supporting new mortgage products and programs. The ideal candidate possesses strong business analysis expertise, mortgage industry knowledge, and a forward-thinking approach to using technology, automation, and AI to solve business challenges.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Strategy & Opportunity Identification
- Partner with business leaders and technology teams to identify opportunities to improve, simplify, automate, or eliminate manual processes across the mortgage lifecycle within the Loan Origination Systems.

- Assess current-state processes and recommend scalable, technology-driven solutions that improve efficiency, accuracy, and the user experience.
- Develop business cases and help evaluate the potential value, feasibility, and impact of proposed technology initiatives.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Computer Science, or related field required.
- 5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, Project Analyst, Product Analyst, Systems Analyst, or related role.
- 3+ years of mortgage industry experience required, preferably within non-Agency, Non-QM, Jumbo, Correspondent, Wholesale, or Capital Markets environments.
- Experience leading or supporting technology implementation projects.
- Experience working with workflow automation, AI, machine learning, large language models, or intelligent process automation preferred.
- Strong understanding of mortgage origination, underwriting, loan operations, secondary marketing, or capital markets functions.
- Experience with Agile, Scrum, or hybrid project management methodologies preferred.
- Proficiency with business analysis tools, workflow mapping, and documentation platforms.
Key Competencies:
- Loan Origination Process Analysis: Evaluates loan origination and acquisition workflows, identifies process gaps and inefficiencies, and recommends scalable technology solutions that improve speed, accuracy, and operational efficiency.

- Mortgage Product & Program Knowledge: Understands mortgage products, lending guidelines, and operational requirements and evaluates how new or changing programs impact loan origination processes, workflows, and technology.
- AI & Automation Acumen: Identifies practical opportunities to leverage AI and automation to streamline loan origination processes, reduce manual work, improve accuracy, and support better decision-making.
- Requirements & Solution Design: Translates mortgage business requirements, product guidelines, and operational needs into user stories, workflows, functional requirements, and scalable technology solutions.
- Strategic Problem Solving: Looks beyond existing processes to identify better ways to support loan acquisition and origination, balancing business objectives, technology capabilities, and operational requirements.
- Project & Stakeholder Management: Builds strong partnerships across mortgage operations, product, technology, and leadership teams to prioritize initiatives and drive system enhancements from discovery through implementation.
- Change Management & Adoption: Supports testing, implementation, training, and adoption of loan origination system enhancements and new technology-enabled processes.
How This Role Demonstrates Our Values:
- Integrity: Ensures loan origination system enhancements, automation, and AI solutions align with lending guidelines, regulatory requirements, and responsible business practices.
