Job Description

Ameriprise Financial is seeking an experienced HR Project Manager to lead the execution of strategic Human Resources initiatives. This role partners closely with HR leaders, Centers of Excellence, HR Operations, Technology teams, and other cross-functional stakeholders to deliver complex projects from planning through implementation, ensuring business outcomes are achieved on time and with high quality.

Successful candidates will have a proven track record leading complex HR-focused initiatives and system implementations, driving cross-functional execution, navigating ambiguity, and influencing stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

This is a highly execution-oriented role requiring a hands-on project leader who can drive workstreams, manage dependencies, remove roadblocks, and hold stakeholders accountable for deliverables. The ideal candidate combines strong project management discipline with an understanding of HR processes, technology and functions, enabling them to successfully lead initiatives across areas such as Talent Acquisition, Talent Management, Compensation, Benefits, Employee Experience, HR Operations, and HR Technology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the end-to-end execution of strategic Human Resources initiatives, including planning, stakeholder alignment, implementation, testing, deployment, and post-implementation support.

  • Partner closely with HR leaders, HR Centers of Excellence, HR Business Partners, HR Operations, Technology teams, and vendors to define project objectives, scope, success measures, and delivery plans.

  • Drive execution across multiple workstreams, ensuring deliverables are completed on time, dependencies are managed, and risks are proactively identified and addressed.

  • Facilitate project meetings, working sessions, and decision-making forums while holding stakeholders accountable for commitments and action items.

  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, timelines, milestones, resource needs, and status reporting using established project management methodologies and tools.

  • Lead the implementation of HR-related initiatives such as HR technology implementations, operating model changes, organizational effectiveness programs, process improvements, regulatory projects, and employee experience improvements.

  • Coordinate cross-functional teams and resources to ensure successful delivery of project objectives and achievement of desired business outcomes.

  • Manage project communications with sponsors and stakeholders, providing clear visibility into progress, risks, decisions, dependencies, and escalations.

  • Identify change impacts and partner with business leaders to support organizational readiness, adoption, training, and communication activities.

  • Monitor project financials, scope changes, risks, issues, assumptions, and key decisions while ensuring alignment with strategic priorities.

  • Establish and track project success metrics and business outcomes, ensuring benefits are realized following implementation.

  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve HR Project Office processes, project team experiences, and project delivery effectiveness.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.

  • 5-7 years of experience leading medium to large-scale projects and system implementations from planning through implementation, preferably within Human Resources, HR Operations, or HR Technology functions.

  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional programs and driving execution across multiple stakeholders, teams, and workstreams.

  • Experience delivering HR-related projects such as process improvements, operating model changes, organizational initiatives, HR technology implementations, regulatory/compliance initiatives, or employee experience programs.

  • Strong project management skills, including project planning, resource management, risk management, issue resolution, change control, and stakeholder communications.

  • Proven ability to influence without direct authority, drive accountability, and lead teams through ambiguity to achieve project objectives.

  • Experience partnering with business leaders, technology teams, and external vendors to successfully deliver business outcomes.

  • Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into executable project plans and drive initiatives through completion.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including facilitation, presentation, and executive-level communication.

  • Experience using project management methodologies and tools to manage project lifecycle activities.

  • Results-oriented with a demonstrated ability to balance multiple priorities and deliver projects on schedule.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading projects within Human Resources functions such as Talent Acquisition, Talent Management, Compensation, Benefits, Learning & Development, Workforce Planning, Employee Experience, or HR Operations.

  • Experience supporting or implementing HR technologies including Workday, ServiceNow HRSD, Cornerstone, Paradox, or similar platforms.

  • Experience leading HR transformation, M&A/organizational change, or business process improvement initiatives.

  • Experience within the financial services, insurance, wealth management, or highly regulated industries.

  • PMP, Agile, Prosci, or other project/change management certifications
