Position Summary
Exemplifying the mission, vision and values of St.Amant, the Early Childhood Educator works collaboratively with partnered programs while offering employees respectful customer service. The Early Childhood Educator II/III (ECE II/III) is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating developmental programs for infants to preschool age children at River Road Children's Centre (RRCC).
A primary responsibility of the ECE II/III is to plan and implement activities, Emergent Curriculum and Thematic Curriculum for the children by providing the supports and opportunities to maximize the child's development and learning while optimizing the child's dignity, self-determination and personal independence.
The ECE II/III is responsible for the overall care and well-being of the children according to the Manitoba Child Day Care Standards Act and the Mission and Philosophy of St.Amant and RRCC. The position involves both direct interactions with the children and the provision of guidance and resources for Childcare Assistants as they support the children in following through with their programs. The ECE II/III is also responsible for communicating information to families and for assisting staff to carry out projects which have been approved by St.Amant.
Qualifications
- Community College diploma (2-year) or Undergraduate Degree which meets the requirements for Classification as an Early Childhood Educator II/III with the Manitoba Child Day Care Office
- Valid Emergency First Aid Certificate and CPR Certificate as prescribed by the Manitoba Early Learning and Child Care
- Experience in the implementation of activities, organizing space, equipment and materials for children between the ages of 12 weeks to six years of age
- Knowledge of the Best Practices Licensing Manual for Early Learning and Child Care Centres, River Road Child Care Safety Plan, Parent Manual, Infection Control Guideline, Reporting of Child Protection and Child Abuse
- Holds a valid Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Check
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, as well as a collaborative team player in a team environment
- Ability to organize and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to generate ideas to improve work procedures and contribute to an environment that fosters growth, development and innovation
- Physical ability to use low chairs and to lift, transfer, feed and toilet children
- Physically able to wash and disinfect toys and move small furniture and child care equipment
Duties and Responsibilities
- Demonstrates sensitivity towards the children's cultural and socio-economic background and acts as a role model to children, parents and Child Care Assistants
- Adheres to and promotes compliance with the policies of the Centre and the requirements of the Manitoba Child Day Care Standards Act
- Designs and implements daily programs that will stimulate the development of the children's cognitive, physical, social and emotional growth
- Provides information to parents through verbal and written means regarding Centre Programs and children's developmental progress
- Uses Incident and Accident Reports to inform parents of children's concerns
- Provides primary care for all children, which promotes positive health, safety and physical development
- Develops effective individualized programming in consultation with appropriate outside agencies or professionals with the knowledge and support of management
- Practices appropriate behaviour management and guidance techniques according to River Road Child Care Polices: Positive Reinforcement, Redirection, Positive Language and Circle of Security
- Follows the program schedule, assigned shift duties and other duties outlined by management
- Understands and abides by the Manitoba Child Care Regulations and licensing requirements
