FST Technical Services is seeking an experienced HVAC / Mechanical Quality Inspector to support a major pharmaceutical construction project in Lebanon, Indiana. This field-based role is responsible for overseeing and verifying the quality of HVAC equipment installation, mechanical systems, and piping systems throughout construction, startup, commissioning, and turnover.The successful candidate will provide hands-on field quality oversight, perform inspections and walkdowns, coordinate resolution of quality issues, maintain required documentation, and help facilitate successful turnover of critical mechanical and HVAC systems.
This position includes mobilization assistance and full per diem for qualified traveling candidates.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide field quality oversight for HVAC equipment, mechanical systems, and piping installations throughout construction, startup, and turnover.
- Perform routine inspections, audits, and field walkdowns to verify compliance with project specifications, approved drawings, manufacturer requirements, approved submittals, and applicable industry standards.
- Review and implement project Quality Plans, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), quality procedures, and turnover requirements for the mechanical scope.
- Monitor installation, testing, balancing, flushing, pressure testing, startup, and commissioning activities for mechanical systems.
- Verify proper installation and integration of chilled water, heating hot water, condenser water, steam, compressed air, air handling systems, clean rooms, process piping, and other mechanical utility systems.
- Work within established Quality Management Systems (QMS) to ensure consistent execution of quality processes and documentation requirements.
- Maintain accurate quality records, including inspection reports, turnover packages, testing records, deficiency logs, and quality metrics.
- Manage quality issues through the complete lifecycle, including identification, documentation, tracking, corrective action implementation, verification, and closure.
- Generate, review, and manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), quality observations, and corrective action requests.
- Utilize project issue-tracking systems to ensure timely resolution of quality concerns and maintain visibility with project stakeholders.
- Participate in project meetings and provide status updates regarding quality performance, trends, deficiencies, and outstanding issues.
- Coordinate closely with construction, engineering, commissioning, contractors, and subcontractors to promote quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with project quality requirements, safety regulations, and applicable building and mechanical codes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant industry experience.
- Minimum 10 years of construction quality experience supporting HVAC equipment, mechanical systems, and piping installations.
- Minimum 5 years of direct cleanroom construction experience within pharmaceutical, semiconductor, biotechnology, advanced manufacturing, or other controlled-environment facilities.
- Demonstrated experience supporting large commercial or industrial construction projects valued at $200 million or greater.
- Extensive knowledge of HVAC systems, mechanical equipment, utility systems, process piping, testing and balancing, and mechanical commissioning activities.
- Proven experience working within formal quality management systems and construction quality programs.
- Experience managing quality documentation, turnover records, inspection reports, NCRs, corrective actions, and issue-tracking systems.
- Strong understanding of ASME, ANSI, SMACNA, ASHRAE, and applicable mechanical and building codes.
- Experience reviewing construction drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, commissioning documents, and quality records.
- Demonstrated ability to identify, document, track, and resolve quality issues in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Strong communication, organizational, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with GMP-regulated facilities and cleanroom validation processes.
- Experience supporting commissioning, qualification, and turnover of critical facility systems.
- Experience using digital construction quality management and issue-tracking platforms.

Work Environment
This is an on-site field position in an active industrial construction environment. Candidates should be comfortable working around HVAC equipment, piping systems, mechanical equipment, construction activities, elevated work areas, and active trade operations. Work may involve indoor and outdoor conditions and varying site conditions.Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout an active construction site.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders and safely access elevated or confined work areas as required for inspections.
- Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and move around HVAC equipment, piping, mechanical systems, and construction materials.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally, with assistance when appropriate.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, high-visibility clothing, hearing protection, and safety-toe footwear.
- Ability to work in indoor and outdoor construction environments that may include heat, cold, noise, dust, uneven surfaces, and varying weather conditions.
- Visual acuity, with or without corrective lenses, sufficient to perform detailed field inspections, review equipment and installation conditions, read drawings and documentation, and identify workmanship or quality concerns.
- Ability to safely perform field inspections for the duration of the assigned work shift, including overtime and occasional weekend work as project needs require.
