A leading global financial institution is seeking a Chief Operating Officer for its Capital Markets Group in APAC, based in Singapore or Hong Kong. What you'll do:

As Chief Operating Officer – Capital Markets Group APAC, you will be instrumental in driving operational excellence across all facets of the business. Your daily focus will be on aligning activities with strategic objectives while supporting senior leaders in executing key projects. You will lead a diverse team by nurturing their understanding of responsibilities and ensuring adherence to company values. Your analytical skills will be called upon for ad-hoc reporting that informs critical decisions. You will optimise operational models for efficiency, oversee new initiatives from conception through implementation, and maintain robust risk management practices. Representing the group at high-level forums will be part of your remit as you foster relationships with internal stakeholders including Compliance Advisory, Finance, HR, and Internal Audit. Your commitment to documenting risks and controls ensures compliance standards are met while you guide first-line control teams. Ultimately, your role is central to creating an environment where collaboration thrives and operational goals are consistently achieved.

  • Align day-to-day activities and those of your direct reports with departmental business strategy to meet or exceed financial and non-financial targets.
  • Lead, direct, and manage staff within your team to ensure responsibilities are understood, policies are followed, and conduct reflects organisational values.
  • Support business heads in identifying needs and opportunities to promote and protect revenue in line with the business plan.
  • Provide ad-hoc analysis to aid decision-making processes for senior stakeholders.
  • Oversee, coordinate, and manage the development of new activity for the Capital Markets Group APAC.
  • Optimise and reengineer business operating models to achieve optimum performance balancing revenue against risk.
  • Support the business in identifying, monitoring, and escalating risks across all functions holistically.
  • Represent the group across committees and forums while maintaining desk procedures through annual reviews and ad-hoc updates.
  • Work alongside Compliance Advisory to implement regulatory changes and interact with support functions such as Finance, Compliance, Internal Audit.
  • Document risks and controls, implement processes to mitigate risk, oversee first-line controls teams, and ensure compliance with internal requirements.

The ideal candidate for Chief Operating Officer – Capital Markets Group APAC brings extensive experience from similar roles within financial services organisations. Your expertise spans debt products such as loans or bonds as well as comprehensive knowledge of deal value chains. You have demonstrated your ability to execute strategic initiatives effectively while partnering closely with legal, compliance, finance, and HR teams. Your leadership style is grounded in empathy—motivating teams through clear communication and shared purpose. You possess strong interpersonal skills that enable you to build trust among senior stakeholders while maintaining accuracy under pressure. Your structured approach ensures tasks are prioritised appropriately even during busy periods. With advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office tools—and ideally Salesforce or Synhub—you are equipped to handle complex data analysis requirements. Above all else, your commitment to nurturing talent within your team sets you apart as someone who fosters growth leadership through inclusive practices.

  • Previous 3-4 years of experience in a COO or Business Management lead role within financial services is essential for success in this position.
  • Overall 15 years od experience in corporate/investment banking and/or capital markets is essential for this role.
  • Deep knowledge of debt products (loans or bonds) along with an understanding of deal value chains is required
  • Proven track record in successfully executing strategy or delivering key strategic projects within complex organisations.
  • Ability to engage collaboratively with second line functions such as Legal, Compliance, Finance, and HR is crucial.
  • Excellent managerial experience enabling you to lead high-performing teams through supportive leadership.
  • Outstanding communication skills that allow you to articulate vision/strategy clearly across all levels of the organisation.
  • Results-oriented mindset paired with accountability for achieving agreed outcomes through communal effort.
  • Structured approach to work combined with sound judgement when making decisions under pressure.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities complemented by creative approaches to addressing challenges collaboratively.
  • Exceptional attention to detail coupled with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; familiarity with Salesforce and Synhub is advantageous.
