Akron General’s 4200 Unit is a Complex Cardiovascular Unit that serves a diverse population, with patients recovering from open-heart surgeries, amputations, lung operations, heart attacks and other critical medical concerns. As a Health Unit Clerk on this unit, you will greet newly admitted and transferred patients, helping facilitate a healing and supportive environment. You will coordinate communication between patients, families and healthcare staff to enhance unit functioning and organization. In this role, you can also explore professional development opportunities to enhance your skills, advance to higher positions or seek further education.
A caregiver in this position works days from 7:00AM – 3:30PM, including every other weekend and 3 holidays per year.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Perform administrative and clerical duties.
Conduct an in-person greeting and welcome newly admitted and transferred patients to the unit.
Respond to patient call lights in a manner that expedites appropriate follow through as needed.
Make rounds on patients throughout their hospital stay.
Communicate with and facilitate communication between patients, families, other departments and healthcare team members regarding patient care.
Assist with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges.
Provide concierge service to assist patients and families with wayfinding and directing them to available resources.
Assemble and maintain patient medical records and other documents related to patient care.
Troubleshoot equipment such as call system, portable phones, WOWs and other unit devices.
Keep nursing stations clean and organized.
Complete mandatory education and training.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma or GED
One year of experience in a customer service-related role
Prior job experience with typing or computer training or equivalent coursework
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Microsoft Office experience
Physical Requirements:
- Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
- Requires frequent data entry, standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
- Requires normal or corrected speech, hearing and vision.
- Requires some exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
