As a Principal Engineer for Power Systems in the Advanced Research team, you will serve as a technical visionary within GE Vernova. You will shape research strategy across our electrification, renewables, and power businesses, defining the future of grid technology. You are expected to demonstrate technical mastery in an industrial context, shaping how the organization defines and quantifies technical priorities, and influencing R&D direction across multidisciplinary teams.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
- Shape research strategy across the Electrification technology domain, generating breakthrough ideas and fostering collaborations with universities, government agencies, and strategic business partners
- Architect solutions across complex electrical grid systems from generation to load. Comprehend intricate system relationships to make intelligent decisions and build systems-thinking capability across disciplines of power systems and power electronics within teams
- Own the organization's most difficult technical challenges in power systems. Convert innovation into strategies that advance organizational objectives and deliver highly innovative solutions to complex, ambiguous problems
- Leverage an extensive internal/external network to align leaders and stakeholders around major technical opportunities. Act as the organization focal point for championing high-stakes technical decisions
- Demonstrate strong ability to adapt GenAI tools to improve the quality and depth of scientific output. Lead by example in the rigorous validation of AI-assisted outputs and mentor others in responsible GenAI use
Qualifications/Requirements
- Education: Doctorate in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems) + 15 years experience, OR Master’s in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems) + 18 years experience
- Technical Expertise: Demonstrated technical mastery in power system operations, controls, protection, and grid dynamics. Proven ability to scale lab-scale developments (e.g., hardware-in-the-loop, PSCAD, Matlab/Simulink) to field implementation
- Research Leadership: Proven record of leading large research programs, writing successful R&D proposals, and taking concepts to product introduction
