Description


Keoghs' Retail Team is seeking to recruit an Intermediate / Multi Track File Handler to manage a caseload of non-delegated Intermediate / Multi Track Employers' Liability (EL) and Public Liability (PL) claims.


This varied and rewarding role offers an excellent opportunity to join Keoghs' thriving Corporate Sector Risk Practice, working with a range of high-profile retail clients.
The successful candidate will predominantly handle a litigated caseload, while also managing a number of cases from the pre-litigation stage through to conclusion.

The role provides exposure to a diverse range of claims and excellent opportunities for professional development within a highly regarded and collaborative team environment.



Key Responsibilities


· Manage a mixed caseload of Employers' Liability (EL) and Public Liability (PL) claims, predominantly Intermediate / Multi Track typically valued between £25,000 and £100,000.

· Assess liability, causation, and quantum, providing clear and commercially focused advice to clients.

· Support the development of junior team members through supervision, mentoring, and coaching in line with Keoghs' Competency Frameworks, while contributing to financial authority audits.

· Develop and implement effective case strategies to achieve the best possible outcomes, identifying areas requiring further investigation and evidence gathering.

· Utilise the firm's Case Management System effectively to progress files efficiently from instruction through to conclusion.

· Draft legal documentation, including Defences, witness statements, and other pleadings as required.

· Attend court hearings, trials, settlement conferences, and other proceedings, either in person or remotely, as required.

· Achieve individual and team performance targets, including chargeable hours, work in progress (WIP), and the accurate capture of client management information (MI).

· Collaborate with colleagues across the wider business to ensure the seamless delivery of high-quality legal services to clients.

· Maintain compliance with the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) Code of Conduct and uphold the Keoghs Values in all aspects of the role.

Recruitment Criteria:

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Proven experience handling Employers' Liability (EL) and Public Liability (PL) Intermediate and/or Multi Track claims is essential.
  • Previous experience supervising or supporting the development of colleagues within a legal environment.
  • Strong mentoring and coaching skills, with the ability to develop and support team members.
  • Positive, confident and enthusiastic approach to work.
  • Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to influence outcomes effectively.

  • Proficient IT skills, including experience using case management systems and Microsoft Office applications.

Desirable

  • Experience handling litigated retail EL/PL claims.
  • Experience attending hearings, settlement conferences and trials.
