Job Purpose
The Network Engineer is an experienced, competent, hands-on network engineer who assists business with guidance and mentoring. Analyse, design, test, document, standardize, implement/configure and support the data networking and security components. Responsibilities also include the interfaces supporting IT systems, telecommunications and all other entities dependent on the network for communications and security.Responsibilities
Network Design and MaintenanceDesign and select medium complexity storage, data centre, network, and client/ server environments to design solutions in line with industry best practice and provide a third-line point of escalation for appropriate global infrastructure solutions. Capable of producing detailed network designs and diagrams. Design, create and maintain documentation and other relevant artifacts to ensure a well-documented up to date environment. Present ideas and designs to a variety of technical or non-technical stakeholders.
Enterprise Network Modernization
Participate in the development of architecture blueprints for related systems. Work effectively with cross-functional teams and collect business requirements using various methods to conceptualize products and services, leveraging data to drive original design ideas and decisions.
Operational Compliance
Identify, within the team, instances of non-compliance with the organization's policies and procedures and/or relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct, reporting these and escalating issues as appropriate. Implement and oversee best practice standards across the networking and security estate.
Information Security
Implement required security measures such as firewalls or message encryption, monitoring performance to notify security experts of any problems.
Project Management
Work within an established project management plan to achieve specific goals.
Data Collection & Analysis
Conduct research using primary data sources and select information needed for the analysis of key themes and trends. Analyse network traffic including reading packet traces and debugging application conversations.
Personal Capability Building
Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching; gain or maintain external professional accreditation where relevant to improve performance and fulfil personal potential. Maintain an understanding of relevant technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
Supplier Management
Investigate incidents with suppliers or supplies and recommend actions in a timely manner to enable the delivery of the agreed services and supplies.
Testing IT Performance
Perform website/applications software tests and respond to user emails to monitor, diagnose, and correct performance issues. Monitor and maintain network performance, availability, and security. Fault finding, analysis and of logging information for reporting of performance exceptions.
Education
Grade 12/ SAQA Accredited Equivalent (Essential); Linux certifications (RHCT, RHCE and LPIC) (Essential); Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or similar relevant degree (Advantageous) (Required)Experience
5 or more years’ experience in Multiplatform networking and security environments, including implementation, maintenance and monitoring (Essential); Demonstrated ability working with various networking and security platforms (Essential).
