Keep the systems running that keep people safe
This is a great opportunity to join Fortress Safety as a Manufacturing Test Engineer and take ownership of the production test processes and systems that underpin the quality and reliability of our safety products. If you enjoy hands-on fault diagnosis, building and improving test capability, and using data to drive real manufacturing improvement, you'll feel right at home here.
You'll combine practical electronics troubleshooting, test hardware and software development, structured problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration — working closely with Production, Quality, Product Design and global manufacturing teams to keep test equipment safe, available and capable of supporting current output and future growth.
About Fortress Safety & Halma

We're proud to be part of Halma plc, a FTSE 100 company with over 8,000 employees across 50+ businesses worldwide, all united by a purpose to grow a safer, cleaner, healthier future for everyone, every day.
What you'll be doing
Provide specialist support for production testers, jigs, cables, instrumentation, software and interfaces, restoring safe operation and minimising disruption to output
Diagnose electrical and electronic faults on PCBAs, sub-assemblies, finished products and test systems using schematics, drawings and measurement equipment
Distinguish product faults from test-system faults and implement controlled recovery actions to prevent recurrence
Analyse yield, right-first-time performance, rework, scrap and tester downtime data to identify improvement priorities
Lead structured root cause analysis of electronic, product and process failures, partnering with Quality and Product Design on corrective actions
Define production-test requirements and specify, design or coordinate test hardware, fixtures, software and databases from concept through production release
Plan and execute verification, validation and safe introduction of new or modified test systems, including support for new product introduction
Create and maintain test specifications, work instructions, fault guides and training materials
Train and coach production and engineering teams in correct test methods and safe tester use
Support deployment, standardisation and remote troubleshooting of test capability across global Fortress manufacturing sites
What you'll bring
Degree, HNC, HND, completed apprenticeship or equivalent demonstrable experience in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Controls, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering or a related discipline
Practical experience supporting, developing or maintaining production test systems in an electro-mechanical or electronics manufacturing environment
Strong electronic fault-finding capability, including interpretation of schematics and confident use of diagnostic equipment
Experience with test hardware, fixtures, jigs, instrumentation, test sequences, software and configuration control
Ability to define test requirements, validate test coverage and safely introduce new test capability into production
Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills, using data to drive measurable improvement
Clear written and verbal communication, including producing technical documentation and training users
Proactive, detail-focused and calm under pressure, with strong ownership and continuous-improvement behaviours
Nice to have
Experience working within a regulated or safety-critical manufacturing environment
Familiarity with LabVIEW, Python or similar test scripting/automation tools
Exposure to Lean, Six Sigma or structured continuous improvement methodologies
Experience supporting global or multi-site manufacturing operations
Knowledge of IPC or similar electronics manufacturing standards
