The Regulatory Compliance Specialist supports hospital continuous survey readiness and compliance with federal, state, and accrediting body standards including but not limited to Joint Commission (JC), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and California Department of Public Health (CDPH). Serves as an operational liaison and subject matter expert for federal certifications (CMS Conditions of Participation), state licensing requirements (CDPH Title 22) and private accrediting organizations (Joint Commission or DNV). Supports continuous readiness through audits, tracer activities, mock surveys, and gap analyses, while coordinating accreditation surveys and regulatory reviews. Serves as a subject matter resource for assigned departments by interpreting regulatory requirements, supporting policy alignment, and collaborating with operational leaders to ensure compliance with applicable standards. Collaborates with clinical and operational leaders across inpatient, outpatient, and ambulatory support departments to ensure consistent implementation of accreditation and regulatory standards. Independently conducts regulatory audits and site visits, tracks compliance trends, supports corrective action planning, and assists with regulatory reporting and survey logistics. Contributes to staff education, data management, and accreditation program administration to promote a culture of safety, accountability, and sustained regulatory excellence.
Job Requirements
Minimum Education Requirement:
Bachelor’s degree in healthcare related field preferred.
Minimum Experience Requirement:
Minimum three (3) years of experience with health care regulatory compliance and process improvements. Experience interacting (in both oral and written forms) with staff, leaders, physicians, and regulatory oversight representatives. Experience with designing, analyzing, interpreting and presenting data.
Minimum License Requirement:
Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) or Micro Certification in Regulatory Affairs required within two (2) years of hire date/transfer.
