Head Track & Field Coach (Internal Applicants Only)
Job Title: Head Track & Field Coach
Division: Athletics
Reports To: Director of Athletics
Employment Status: Full-Time
FLSA Status: Exempt
Location: Fort Valley, Georgia (Onsite)
Position Summary
The Head Track & Field Coach is responsible for leading all aspects of the track and field program. This position provides leadership for student-athlete development, daily practices, coaching staff, recruiting, team operations, equipment, travel, scheduling, and budget management. The Head Coach promotes athletic excellence, personal growth, teamwork, sportsmanship, and a positive student-athlete experience while ensuring program activities are conducted safely and in accordance with applicable athletic guidelines.
Duties

Plan and conduct daily practices, training sessions, and team workouts.

Provide instruction and skill development for running, jumping, and throwing events.

Hire, supervise, support, and provide direction to assistant coaches.

Promote student-athlete development, motivation, teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.

Identify and recruit prospective student-athletes.

Coordinate competition schedules, team travel, and meet entries.

Maintain equipment and uniform inventory.

Manage the track and field program budget.

Communicate effectively with parents, University leadership, athletic administrators, and other appropriate stakeholders.

Ensure practices, competitions, and program activities are conducted in accordance with applicable safety requirements.

Follow applicable University and athletic association rules, policies, and guidelines.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

Collegiate track and field coaching experience.

Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Demonstrated ability to motivate and develop student-athletes.

Current First Aid and CPR certification.

Relevant coaching certifications.
Preferred Qualification
-
Master's degree from an accredited institution.
Working Conditions
This position requires regular work in office, athletic facility, outdoor, travel, and competition environments. Duties may include extended standing, demonstrating track and field techniques, handling equipment, and working in varying weather conditions.
Additional Requirements
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of applicable background checks, credential verification, driving-record review, and other University requirements.
Additional duties may be assigned based on the needs of Fort Valley State University and the Department of Athletics.
