Are you an experienced legal professional with a strong background in regulation and looking to take the next step in your career in Malta? Our client is looking for a Regulatory Counsel to provide expert regulatory advice across multiple gambling jurisdictions and contribute to a fast-paced, international environment.
Take ownership of a diverse portfolio of regulatory matters, from licensing and regulatory submissions to risk assessments, policy development, and strategic business initiatives. What will you do?
- Monitor, analyse, and interpret regulatory developments across multiple gambling jurisdictions and assess their impact on the business.
- Provide clear and practical regulatory advice to stakeholders across product, marketing, payments, operations, and technology.
- Conduct legal research and regulatory analysis covering applicable laws, licence conditions, and regulatory frameworks.
- Manage regulatory queries independently and escalate complex or high-risk matters when appropriate.
- Lead regulatory impact assessments for new products, features, market entries, and strategic initiatives.
- Identify regulatory risks and contribute to appropriate risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
- Provide guidance concerning AML/CFT, sanctions, responsible gambling, data protection, consumer protection, and other key regulatory areas.
- Manage gaming licence applications, regulatory submissions, reporting obligations, licences, approvals, and associated documentation across multiple jurisdictions.
- Develop relationships with regulators and competent authorities and coordinate responses to regulatory inquiries, inspections, enforcement actions, and information requests.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of regulatory policies, standards, and frameworks.
- Develop and deliver regulatory training and awareness materials to Compliance and operational teams.
- Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, Risk, Technology, and operational teams to ensure regulatory requirements are consistently understood and applied.
- Lead or contribute to regulatory workstreams within projects, change programs, and cross-functional initiatives.
- Support junior members of the Regulatory team and contribute to the continuous improvement of regulatory processes.
Candidate profile
- Qualified lawyer with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Law (LLB or equivalent).
- 3–4 years of post-qualification experience in regulatory, legal, or advisory roles, ideally within iGaming, fintech, financial services, or another regulated industry.
- Demonstrated experience with multi-jurisdictional gambling regulation and licensing, including licence applications and regulatory submissions.
- Experience providing independent regulatory advice to internal business stakeholders.
- Experience with AML/CFT, responsible gambling, and consumer protection regulatory requirements.
- Strong legal research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements and translate them into clear, practical, and commercially sound advice.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including communicating regulatory matters to non-legal audiences.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to manage a varied workload and meet deadlines.
- A high level of professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail.
- Fluent English; proficiency in Danish, Finnish, or Swedish is considered an advantage.
- Commercially aware, solution-oriented, proactive, and comfortable taking ownership of regulatory matters.
- Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills when working with internal and external stakeholders.
